Stats of their 3 goalies:
– Dostal (Ducks): 27 GP, 13-10-2, 3.18 GAA, .887 SV%
– Vejmelka (Mammoth): 32 GP, 18-11-2, 2.70 GAA, .896 SV%
– Vladar (Flyers): 24 GP, 15-6-3, 2, 2.39 GAA, .910 SV%
Now here’s Rittich’s stats: 18 GP, 11-5-2, 2.48 GAA, .907 SV%.
So, how did Rittich not make it, but a goalie with an >3.00 GAA and two goalies with an <.900 SV% did?
Sure, Dostal and Vejmelka are the starter/1A goalies of their respective teams, but all of Rittich’s stats, not just the basic ones I listed, are better than them two, and with more games played than the average backup goalie. You can see this just by watching; Rittich has been outstanding in most of his games, has kept us in it in many of them. I just don’t see how he didn’t make it over Dostal.

Nah, those guys are better than Rittich. I love Rittich, he’s having a nice little run as our backup. But the larger body of work means something here.
I don’t see an issue with him being left off to be honest. All of the goalies they have are solid and Rittich has been surpassing expectations this season. If I were them, I wouldn’t want to risk him returning to his usual form halfway through the tournament
Just further proof these rosters were locked in before this season started. Though it is a little strange they took Vladar over him. Rittich has better career numbers. I guess they just wanted the younger guys.
So Horvat is officially our only Olympian
As much as I want that for him, with Sorokin’s injury stint it’s a great time for him to rest. I get he’ll get some this month since Sorokin is back now (or maybe for now), but even Horvat I wish was left off.
Our team needs rest.
Rittich would be their 3rd string. If Czechia has to use their 3rd string goalie in this tournament their tournament is fucked so it doesn’t matter.
Better for the isles. Don’t need any more injuries and let’s him and Ilya catch a break.
