If you had to choose one retired Steelers number to become officiallly retired next to Stautner, Franco , and Mean Joe, who would it be? Troy has my vote.

  1. I think for modern history it has to be Troy, it’s such a unique number that no one else on any other team could pull off.

7 will never be retired imo, not sure if Cam will either. He for sure will be a HoFer but if Troy’s wasn’t retired I don’t think the next number to be retired is even on the team currently.

  2. Jack Lambert. Troy is my number 2 pick.

It’s basically retired anyway, nobody has worn it since his career ended, they may as well make it official.

  3. I absolutely love Troy. And I’ll homer a bit. I think that he’s been the closest to having that trigger pulled. But if they don’t pull on him they shouldnt do it for anyone else either currently or past. Troy defined an era for Steelers D that we still see glimmers of today. Hes the closest thing we have had to dominance and is a worthy person of character more so than the others.
Terry Bradshaw could be next, I wouldn’t be surprised especially with his broadcasting career comes to an end. Do I think he deserves it more than Troy? Franco and mean Joe sure, Bradshaw ehhhhh I’d rather see Swan/stallworth. But overall I think Troy should be in a better position due to the different eras needed to be represented, and the legacy he gave us with those teams. It’s not just the individual, we should also honor those 2002-2010 who helped secure us two more Superbowls, by honoring one of the most dominant players to ever play the game. Troy checks all the boxes.

  4. I don’t think we’ll see another player quite like Troy in our lifetimes. It’s gotta be him.

  5. There’s too many on that next tier.

Just easier to not retire any more than choose the next one. Everyone has their favorites and the awesome thing js they’re not wrong.

  6. I’m not seeing enough love for 52 for my tastes. Webster was the man in the middle for the Steelers offensive line for 15 years and was named to not one but two all-decade teams.

  7. I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to retire numbers in football due to having so many players on the roster but as far as I’m concerned there should never be another black and gold 36 after The Bus.

  8. There are arguments for a lot of the names in this thread. The player has to be exceptional and somewhat unique so Troy is the only one I’d consider.

A lot of great players are interchangeable as far as talent and production goes. But you can’t replicate or replace what Troy did on the field. A true 1 of 1 kind of player.

  9. first 3 for me would be in no order, webster, lambert, ham

after that woodson, polamalu, blount, again not in an order
