He'll be fine. This is basically his rookie year. Give him this season and the offseason and he will recover and get back to his best self. His injuries aren't small injuries and it takes time. I don't understand why this sub is being so impatient with him when the Sixers clearly aren't. He has the talent to be an all star caliber player and I believe he can complete if not exceed those expectations. He is not going to be his former self after 2 big injuries fighting for a spot against 3 really good guards.

i agree but shut the fuck up lol
And vice versa for those that crowned him and refuse to hear any criticism. In all likelihood he’s probably getting packaged with PG this off-season
I think people are being patient with him but it’s worrying that he looks completely unplayable out there. He’s not a good finisher or defender, and his shot isn’t falling right now. For a team competing for a playoff spot he just can’t be getting real minutes
Dude has a great foundation to be a very good player. When he lets the game come to him he’s electric. I think he’ll find his way back for sure next season
His defensive instincts/ awareness are so piss poor and it’s genuinely alarming. I was at the game last night and we were getting SHELLED when he was trying to cover anyone that had even normal basketball instincts. I was a HUGE McCain guy when we drafted him, and obviously during a stretch last year, but I am changing my tune now. Even if he improves to a 12-14 ppg player I genuinely don’t see that amount of production outweighing his defensive ineptitude. He either needs to become such a lights out shooter that he can drop 17-20 without blinking and then 25 on a good night, or he’s not gonna make it in this league.
It’s not that we think he’s fucked forever. I just don’t want him on the court at the moment, given every single game is terrible from him. How many wins are we comfortable giving away for him to get his 20 mins?
Send him to the G League and let him work it out without hurting the team.
He needs to play. And not in the D league. He’ll be fine.
NN said himself- Jared needs more minutes to get it back..
Okay.. Where these minutes coming from?
Couldn’t hang on the court with Denver 3rd string.. where these minutes coming from?
Oubre and Watford bout to come back.. where the minutes coming from?
You cutting Maxey minutes, Grimes minutes, VJ minutes on a project?
Honestly, I’m worried about him as a part of this team
Rational and calm take. Agree fully
lol no, eat shit
Even if you accept your premise, that this is his rookie year, we should still be worried. McCain looks terrible this year. He doesn’t look like he even belongs in the league.
We shouldn’t give up yet (absent some trade that makes us better), but we should be worried.
He is the fourth best guard we have. – He is only 21/22. The current version of Maxey is very different than the one at 21. Maxey should take him to the gym
I did not think he had this level of play in him. I thought at min he could hit 3’s. He is shooting 32.2% and he is hesitant to shoot sometimes. He got a travel call last night because he second guessed himself. He at minimum needs to be automatic from three, both in volume and efficiency

With my own two eyes!
I love McCain and I think you realistically can’t expect him to be playing at the caliber he was before his injuries. My main concern isn’t how he’s playing now, but what “realistically” speaking is his role going to be on this team? We need his 3 point shooting badly and hopefully that along w/ his shot creation will come but then how will he be used? His defense, when he was healthy and now that he’s back, just isn’t that good and that’s not a surprise as that’s not his role.
So then what are we ultimately going to get from him? I don’t really see us being able to play him/ Maxey/ and VJ on the floor at the same time as VJ is the only player that can’t be picked on for his defense in that group. Is he going to be our ultimate 6th man? What about when Oubre comes back along w grimes already taking that role?
I have a lot of hope for him and love the guy, met him last year soon after he got hurt and his spirit is awesome, I just don’t know what his role will be if this team is actually going to get something going here for some kind of playoff run either this year or in the next season or two. I hope we can use him like we did Redick and belinelli on handoffs w/ Embiid and he finds his role here!
He is washed…
Jared has this collective fanbase in an absolute chokehold, haven’t seen people ride this hard for a player who’s so painfully mediocre in a long time. All because he shot the ball well for like 10 games on the shittiest Sixers team in years!
We saw what he was like when he was free to flow with the game, move as he wished and obviously have the ball in his hands more.
I think now that all the big boys are back, he is being told to reign in and really follow protocol and that protocol doesn’t have him being allowed to freely roam and run off screens etc. they clearly want him to be spot up man majority of the time which is not one of his strengths since he is short and can be ran off the line easy.
His value is low atm since he isn’t playing well and we have seen a glimpse of his potential. If the Sixers trade him, they are stupid.
Just let him continue to get reps and I’m sure his body will get back to 100%, his shooting will get back closer to the norm and who knows, maybe NN might actually make some more adjustments to the dynamic so that McCains strengths can be used
I strongly believe that McCain’s biggest downfall is that we’re no longer in a lottery position. He would probably get so much more reps and get back to his normal self quicker if we weren’t competing for a spot in the playoffs
Back in my day we didnt give up on players after they’d played less than a years worth of games.
It sucks he’s the odd man out in the guard rotation. VJ took this team by storm and a reliable 3rd was always Grimes. McCain has made improvements defensively and his willingness to never be afraid of scoring always helps. If the Sixers see Grimes as a long term fit, I’m really afraid of him becoming a trade piece.
he has a better chance of being out of the league in 4 years than being an all star
I think the kid needs to stick to his tic toc dances
Bro isn’t preforming the way he needs to be for the way he gets paid.
I understand he was injuried but playing significantly worse than your rookie year with no signs of improvement is not what the Sixers need
