  1. Also looks like a handful of these HC interviews could be covert interviews for the coordinator slots. I know a lot of folks were theorizing it but seeing Fowler put it in writing gives that some credibility.

  2. Robert Salah or Jim Schwartz are my defense-minded coaches of choice. So I can guarantee it won’t be them.

  3. Oh nice, all you need to do is pair a defensive head coach with an established offensive play caller? That’s easy to do because there are lots of established offensive play callers who don’t want to be head coaches, and that stay with an organization more than 1 year if they have success. Genius!

  4. I would like Saleh as HC for sure. He seems like he could inspire a locker room and give the team some fight on Sundays. With the high character guys we have on the team already, I think he’d be a real help re-establishing a winning or at least driven culture

Don’t know as much about Shula but wouldn’t necessarily have a problem with it.

  5. Not opposed to the idea of a defensive guy being HC. I just hate the inevitable turn around you get with OC’s if they are good, then going to be HC somewhere else. Then the installing of a new system etc.. Eventually you are scraping the bottom of the barrel for your 5th/6th option at OC like a Downing.

I am hopeful if we do go this route though, a guy like Bo did get better throughout the year along with Cam and the running game did pick up when Luke Stocker started working with the run game more. A guy I hope is retained after the new HC is hired.

  6. Defensive head coach hiring means if Cam lights it up, OC will get poached every season

  7. Saleh or Shula HC paired with Kingsbury, McDaniel(?), or even Nagy may be my favorite option. Will also happily take Stefanski in a heartbeat, but I don’t realistically think we pursue harbaugh

  8. Our offense has been boring AF for 5 years. We’re just gonna ignore that? Especially in the AFC, we need to go toe to toe with Mahomes and Allen in gunslinging high scoring games if we want a shot.

  9. I think the only two head coaches I would be disappointed with would be Saleh and Spagnuolo. Absolutely dreadful Head Coaching stints.

I can talk myself into literally anyone else.

  10. I hope Saleh has improved, but he had a major problem being buddy buddy with players and not enforcing discipline. jets were consistently high in penalties taken, but he coached a defense of genuine dawgs, the best tackling Ive seen from a jets defense since 2010 came from the 2022 and 2023 squad. He just has to nail the offensive coordinator position, and luckily ward is miles better than Wilson ever was

  11. I want someone who knows football and knows how to win games. Period. He speaks in X”s and O’s not use buzzwords: collaboration and building a winning culture. Shut up and prove it on the field. Winning will fix everything.

  12. For the life of me I can’t understand how so many are ok with hiring a defensive guy. In my eyes, by far the top priority is developing Cam. If Cam becomes a good to great QB, we will have a lot of success. If we make him second or third priority, we will be mediocre at best. It’s not that complicated.

  13. I’d really like Saleh he is in my mind one of the top defensive minds in the league backed by multiple years of elevating the defense when is the DC/HC (in fact his defenses have regularly finished ranked in the top 3 – 5 it doesn’t get much better than that). I also think Saleh was dealt a really bad hand on the Jets (2x years of wilson, rodgers going down forcing wilson again, he definitely deserves another shot at HC imo.

I’m not that interested in Shula, he lacks the history of defensive excellence of other DC candidates (like never being the DC of a top 10 defense), He in general lacks experience which is perhaps the biggest knock against him only being a DC in the NFL for 2 years (one of which was a bottom 10 defense), and has also never held the HC position. In fact I believe the only reason he’s being considered for a HC job at all is due to his last name… shula… (And don’t get me wrong he could work out and be a top 10ish HC for decades, but it really would be like that year we took Vrabel out of the blue)

  14. It’s strange to me how many fans absolutely hate the idea of hiring Nagy but want Saleh as HC. Saleh had 4 straight losing seasons and got canned mid season. His offenses were always bottom of the league. Nagy went to 3 Super Bowls with the Chiefs. And playoffs twice in 4 years with Trubisky as HC. I’m not saying Nagy is the best choice by any means but he has a better track record of success as both a HC and coordinator than Saleh.

  15. I’d hate to have another defensive-minded coach but Saleh I think would be an okay choice.

But we really, REALLY need an offensive minded HC first.

  16. Nice bit of insight in that last bit. As we’ve said before, a lot of these interviews are certainly based on building out a potential staff, especially if we go with a younger HC.

  17. Are we just a franchise obsessed with hiring guys that failed? Or do all the top prospects just simply not want to come here

  18. I’m nervous about the GM trying to assemble the staff for the HC. Carolina did that and it went miserably.

  19. Every time they say lets “cast a wide net” witb our coaching search. This year they might actually do it lol.

Still doubt we get one of the top candidates. All those guys want to go to the Ravens or Giants way before us.

  20. Robert Saleh is basically Mike Vrabel without the success. Lol.

I’m not saying it’d be a bad hire, but it would be pretty funny.
