Hopefully, we rattle off a few more moves and go for it!
I dont get the bype. Was he really worth Cassie and others?
Good get!
He has something our staff doesn’t have and that’s swing and miss stuff. It’s up to our pitching staff to get the most out of him.
Excellent! Now sign Tucker.
May he shred batters always.
Nice. Now for a productive bat and we are cooking on gas
Excited to see what Cabrera can bring for us this season!
I like the pick up but I thought Cassie was going to be a great player.
You can’t make this move and not go hard after Tucker right? Don’t want to see 10/500 or anything crazy but make a run at him
Well, it’s done.
Assuming he can stay healthy – always a thing with pitchers, a BIG thing with Cabrera given his career – I’m trying to talk myself into liking the move.
He should benefit from a sterling – especially in the IF – defense.
Assuming Mo Baller – and I’m in favor of that – gets first crack at primary DH, there probably was no spot for Caissie anyway. Alcantara is better suited to be the 4th OF — at least, he can probably handle CF.
IDK… I’m anti-Jed – I’ll laud him for stuff that worked out (signing Boyd, scrounging bullpens off the scrap heap) but I continue to believe that he just makes too many moves in isolation, without thinking about the if/then.
I didn’t like the Tucker trade last winter – not because I wouldn’t have done it, but because he still had Bellinger and once he got Tucker? Well, duh — he was inevitably going to have to pay someone to take Belly… as happened. He also sent off the incumbent 3B – who granted, sucked, and also granted, needed a shorter porch – plus I do think we’ll eventually rue losing Cam Smith.
This, I guess, at least makes more sense… Caissie was a chit. We want more pitching. That’s a hefty price to pay – I like Caissie and I think Hernandez is a sneaky better than touted prospect, while Edgardo de Leon is intriguing.
Flags fly forever — and this almost certainly makes the 2026 Cubs better…. but I still think Jed is… not good. Not bad, but maybe more Jim Hendry level “some good, some bad”

Love the move. Cubs needed a top end starter, and now they’ve got a really nice mix of type, stuff and age, again going 9 or so deep.
Cassie showed promise, but they’ve got people at his position and in the minors to fill his role now and in the future. Unmentioned, but this makes the opportunity for Alcantara and Ballesteros much more clear cut. It also allows Ben Brown to move to the pen (which probably happens regardless).
Hernandez seems much more likely to get a shot with the Marlins and is highly unlikely to ever crack the MLB roster in Chicago.
Deleon is a lottery ticket. Now he’s Floridas ticket. The cubs have many more remaining.
Now get another
Is this the potential opening day?
1 – Happ
2 – Baller
3 – Busch
4 – Suzuki
5 – Hoerner
6 – PCA
7 – Swanson
8 – Amaya
9 – Shaw
Eddie C. in the house! Let’s gooooo!!!

He 100% will be getting Tommy John this seasn
My favorite catchphrase during Edward Cabrera starts is to shout “sit the fuck down!” at opposing batters
