Houston Astros’ Infield Logjam: Who Stays and Who Goes?
The Astros have too many hitters — and not enough places to put them.
On this episode of Baseball Bar-Cast, Jordan Shusterman and Eric Longenhagen break down how Houston ended up with a roster that simply doesn’t function on paper.
Between Yordan Alvarez’s role at DH, Jose Altuve’s defensive future, Carlos Correa’s return, and the competing needs of Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker, the Astros are staring at a financial and positional logjam that won’t fix itself.
So how did they get here? Who actually has the most trade value? And why does every solution seem to make their 2026 “win-now” window even more complicated?
One way or another, Houston is going to have to make a call — and soon.

Eeeee-Myyyyy!!! Let’s #gostros
Chandler as we saw last year guys get hurt, so the depth could be beneficial. Just play musical chairs with guys in the infield (and some outfield) until someone goes down with an injury. Because it's gonna happen when a lot of the guys on the roster are either older players or injury prone players or both. Maybe they still make a trade but I could see them trying to work with the depth
What if Walker gets traded and then he gets on a tear? I say keep them all and at the trade deadline trade Jeremy Peña for an ace pitcher plus some prospects. Put Correa back in SS. We’re gonna to lose Peña to Scott Boracious’ greed at the end of the season any ways!
Trade walker and eat some salary if not just don't play walker, make him be the 400 AB guys, who care if he makes a lot of money you got Paredes for pennies. And knowing this team injuries are just going to happen.
Altuve should be retired or traded if anyone will pick him up, he's to old and his slumps last way longer than his hitting streaks.
Walker has to go, Luis Arraez is still a Free agent
I'll always wonder about a player's nutrition over their lifetime in 3rd world countries, and them being injured alot. I wonder if there is anything pointing to that being a legit concern??
