Only proves further that Andy’s hiring methods at skill positions are a war crime on our talent development
Why keep him around when it started? Wasting Mahomes years smh
Good fucking riddance
Todd Haley vibes where he was completely and totally unqualified in every single way but cronyism got him a job.
Yeah Nate Taylor came on and said this, I think we all suspected Conner was not the best WR coach. It is too bad it took 3 years to determine he was not the right person for the job.
Like our WR room has looked far worse than is should on paper for the past 3 seasons, have had countless drops, bad routes, etc.
Its frustrating that he lasted this long with that kind of thing going on, but it also makes me hopeful that our WRs can improve next year *if* we get the right guy in there to coach them.
I could have told you kelce had a bigger impact than embree, and I’ve never been in the locker room.
I know his careers over now but this just makes me even more mad about Kadarius Toney‘s potential. We went into that 23 season thinking he’d be WR1 and it was a shit show. Maybe he would’ve been shit regardless but who knows if he has a true leader in that room what would’ve happened.
I know we ended up winning that year but it does really feel like Patrick’s greatness has just been covering the glaring holes across the organisation.
I mean the guy has no real experience other than holding a clipboard so what do you expect! They need to hire someone that can actually teach route running, improvisation and other skills. So glad he is gone.
I didn’t need Nate Taylor to tell me this. It was obvious.
Bring back Greg Lewis to be WR coach unless the new OC has a stud that they’re bringing
Patriots fans: “Reid carries Mahomes because he schemes receivers open.”
Not only is it the case that Pat has carried Andy since becoming a starter, but having an offense built around scheming someone open instead of having someone win their route was always bound to get stale. And when receivers have no coach to help them run actual routes that aren’t just hitch or dig, they’re gonna feel wasted.
Why in the world was he hired in the first place? Makes zero sense
With all the successful retired players Andy has coached, you’d think he could find a skill position coach that actually has relevant coaching or playing experience.
Embree returned punts for ku for a season. Would make sense if he was a position coach at Lawerence high or maybe even ku. But the Chiefs? Way in over his head and it was obvious since day 1.
Pretty classic case of promoting a guy way out of their depth. Andy’s too loyal.
Not to say you can’t have a good coach who has never played, but it’s an uphill battle. Especially as a position coach where so much hinges on understanding nuance. Embree was a back up RB in college who played like 5 snaps on Special Teams. Not a surprise that Hopkins and Kelce were better coaches.
Yup. Worthy has name-dropped DHop particularly and also Kelce in interviews as being critical to his development before. At the time I thought he was just being respectful of two pretty legendary vets.
But I think when he was playing his best late in the 24-25 season, in retrospect it was when DHop was there.
Can someone smarter than me explain how important a positional coach is, especially for veteran players?
Obviously, rice, worthy brown should’ve been playing better then they have been both rice and worthy had 900 yard seasons in their rookie year and then they regressed, that screams coaching issue.
Embree and Nagy is a horrific duo on our offense and it pisses me off we had to miss the playoffs to make some changes
Embree should have never been put at WR to begin with. At least Reid was able to admit he made a mistake. Even if indirectly. This reminds me a lot of the same reasons Bob Sutton was fired. Part of it was because Sutton had lost all the defensive players.
Guess I have what it takes to be a Chiefs WR too!
It is a fucking miracle the Chiefs won a SB with Embree as WR coach.
It is whatever residual discipline was left from Bieniemy’s tenure + Kelce held the team together.
Now kelce’s pissed off /defeated body language on the sidelines makes more sense.
deandre hopkins as wr coach confirmed
Ok we wll knew he was shit i want to know who he gets replaced with
Well if Kelce really has decided he’s done… there’s a job opening.
Also everyone remember when Andy Reid was like Travis would make a great coach turns out he was already coaching while also playing. also anyone remember Travis play is what won them that 3rd ring and got a touchdown for the 2nd ring
I think this may be true, but also doesnt explain why all the other WRs we drafted didn’t develop. Sky, Mecole, Toney might as well have been. Those dudes never became legitimate weapons either. Maybe our scouting department has been getting bailed out by mahomes this whole time. But im glad they found a scapegoat for their poor decision making. Now, who can we blame the running back situation on…
this reflects very poorly on andy reid tbh
Its nice to get a different WR coach but we now need some damn WRs to actually coach. It cant just be Worthy, Royals, and Remigio along with a couple draft picks since Reid doesnt use rookies anyway
We may be forced to sign a FA WR or trade for one just to get through this season
I could tell from 15 seconds of an Embree interview that he contributed absolutely nothing
This is symptomatic of Andy Reid. Hiring buddies that are not competent and keeping them around. Exhibit 1 is his son. This will continue with the buddy system until something breaks.
No bueno
Another reason i’d love Kingsbury or Mcdaniel as our new OC is to bring some of their positional coaches too
This is why Andy lost the plot. Nepotism and stale ideas.
