[Heyman] Bo Bichette’s asking price is thought to be around $300M

  1. Think he’ll take the cubs offer of a ham sandwich and how great the vibes are at wrigley instead?

But who am I kidding. They didn’t resign Tucker, however, Bo wouldn’t have the drop off Tucker did.

  3. Well, I think it’s a worthy price if you can include team options in the contract.

  4. He will probably get it, but after the last 2-3 years I think some team is going to drastically overpay.

  5. No way the Cubs will pay that. Ricketts will offer him a six pack of Bud Light and a carton of cigarettes, if he’s lucky.

  6. He’s 27 so he’s worth the price, but he really isn’t a fit for our team. We’re already solid up the middle… and sadly Shaw isn’t going anywhere. It just wouldn’t make sense to add him.

  7. Woof, 300m seems high to me, tbh. He’s been on a couple all star teams, finished in top 20 for mvp but never top 10, and the random injuries seem to be piling up on him. What is Bellinger asking?

  8. He’s not getting that because people aren’t gonna want to sign him for 10 years. $240 I could see. $225ish seems more likely.

  9. Either sign him or just kiss and make up with Kyle Tucker.

Both young and talented, good influence for team. Take the risks.

  10. He is a good player offensively but has been trending down and always has some nagging injury that causes him to miss time. Defensively he is bad. I don’t see anyone paying him that kind of money. Maybe he convinces someone to go crazy but I would think his real value is closer 6 years $150m with an out after 3 years or something. The cubs need an outfielder. Are they going to move him to of and pay that much for a 25 homer guy? Seems like bad business and with how cheap the cubs are I can’t imagine they are even in the running.

  11. Tucker was in the $500-600M range during the 2025 season, but then he got injured again. His asking price after the season was supposedly $400M±. Now the rumors are ~$280-300M. Just keep Hoerner and sign Tucker.

  12. Again the market has changed. He is more likely to get $160/4. And then hope to make $140 over the next 6.

  13. It’ll be a cold day in hell before Tom Ricketts lets Jed sign any player whose asking price is $300 million or more.

  14. Ian Happ average OPS+ over the last three years: 119

    Bo Bichette: 107

Ian Happ average HR last 3 years: 21

    Bo Bichette: 14

Ian Happ Gold Gloves past 3 seasons: 3

    Bo Bichette: 0

    $300M is insane

  15. I don’t think there is any player/contract comparison for Bichette which would come out in his favor. The ones I can think of:

Trea Turner: 11/$300M from Philly after 2 consecutive seasons of 6+ fWAR. Bichette is about 2 years younger than Turner was, but he has never reached 5.0 fWAR either (Turner did it 3 times before FA, and COVID is the only reason he didn’t do it a 4th time).

Corey Seager: 11/$325M from the Padres, and I don’t think they’re happy with the contract. It was at the same age Bichette is now, and both players put up 3.8 fWAR in their final seasons before FA. However, Seager’s peak was a little higher, and he didn’t come with the defensive concerns of Bichette. I think a lot of teams expect he’ll have to move off SS someday, and that works against him in the comparison.

Manny Machado: 11/$350M from the Padres, but it came as a superstar on both ends. He was a phenomenal SS who moved to 3B to help the team, and his extension started after 5 seasons where the fWAR was higher than Bichette’s peak. Even then, that contract looks really bad, just from the standpoint of being sub-4.0 fWAR in each of the 3 seasons since the extension started.

Xander Bogaerts: 11/$280M, starting 2 years older than Bichette is now. It’s seen as one of the worst contracts in baseball already, and it goes for another 8 years. Like the others, Boagerts’ peak of 6.0 fWAR (twice) is higher than Bichette’s 4.9, and the results since would make teams shudder at such a deal.

Turner is the only one where I think you’d have a reasonable argument that the contract has been OK so far, but he’s also historically been much better than Bichette ever was. Bogaerts is the worst of the players on this list, but was better than Bichette has been, and the contract is a disaster.

Frankly, I think the 24M AAV Marcus Semien got is much more in line with where Bichette deserves to be. Semien was 31 when his deal started though, so Bichette would likely get a longer contract than the 7 years Semien received. In that sense, a 10/$240M would be pretty fair, and maybe you bump it to $250M for “inflation.”

  16. I’m concerned about what the Cubs will do when Nico asks for close to that much next year.

  17. Who cares? Not my money. We need another bat and Wrigley Field is an ATM for the Ricketts. Get it done.

  18. I’m hoping we can snag Bregman. I don’t understand the need for Bo as we already have a stud at second. I get Bo has more power but I think Alex is the clear #1.

  19. I’d rather the team break open the piggy bank for Tucker.

Where would they even play Bo? Shaw and Nico are better with the glove and Nico’s been too good to ship off somewhere.
