We traded Nolan Allan and Laurent Brossoit

  1. So for anyone not aware, Ellis hasn’t played in a few years and will be joining Blackhawks legend Shea Weber on LTIR. His cap hit is 6.25m for this year and next year before he’s off the books.

I liked having a possible veteran contingency plan in net in case we were actually pushing playoffs down the stretch, but a 4th seems fine for a goalie without an NHL game in 2 years and our 4th best AHL defenseman.

  2. Soo… basically we gave up Allen to move from a 7th to a 4th?

Guess the brass lost faith in his progress

  3. Hawks legend Laurent Brossoit. To move up three rounds in the draft to offload him is not bad considering the Hawks take on an extra year of Ellis $6.25m LTIR. Looks like Furlong for Allan is more a change of scenery push to see if either unlocks a higher ceiling than AHL tweener.

  4. Why? Is Furlong potentially better than Allan? Or it is more about getting a bit higher pick for Brossoit?

  5. Wasn’t there a time when you taken on dead cap players and get something actually in return? A good prospect or a high round pick? The cap space is obviously what this is about and I think this is second or third time the CBH got very little in return.

  6. Don’t really get this one (although I’m a bit dense and never do), looking at the trade it seems like just swapped middling D prospects and took on a contract and gave away possibly adequate goalie to move from 7th to 4th round?

  7. Allan is behind EDM in the pecking order who himself is a long shot to win a spot next year.

They need the Ellis contract as insurance to meet the cap floor, because Frondell and Kantserov will be on ELCs and we’re going to lose a couple vets on bigger deals.

  8. Ice Hogs can now just shift focus on Commesso and Breszhnoy instead of rotating the 3. Also gives Brossoit a chance to play in SJS and Allen a shot at their D

  9. Sucks to see Allan go but given how many defensive prospects we have one of them was either getting traded or wouldn’t be resigned. I don’t really have a problem because Lou, Vlasic, Arty, and Kaiser have all played well this year. We also got Del Mastro and Kev down in Rockford. I also like Griz and Murph out there as Vets until the young guys are developed.

  10. Part of me does think we might regret letting Allan go without trying to get a bit more, but ultimately it’s probably a nothing move for both teams. San Jose gets a slightly better defensive prospect and we get dead cap.

The real thing we’re trying to do with this move is hit the salary floor while being able to roster Frondell, Kantserov, and Lardis on their rookie deals next season. Ultimately I didn’t see Allan ever getting above bottom-pairing anyway.

  11. Allan was never making the team. Maybe he can do something with San Jose.

This one seems like a trade to benefit Brossoit more than anything while also bolstering the Hawks ability to have a million young players.

  12. Good dead cap move tbh.

Got rid of two guys with no spot on our team in the future.

Allan is being outplayed by everyone who is currently up.

    Dickinson next?

  13. Alleviating the Goalie Log Jam. Totally not fair to Brossoit to be left on simmer in Rockford, if he’s healthy and can be an NHL goalie somewhere. Taking in a LTIR probably a courtesy to balance scales for the pick. KFC seems to have a plan which is much more than I can say for Stan.

  14. I think both EDM and Korch are ahead of Allan so I get it. Crevier also stole a roster spot. Very impressed with him this year
