Colts GM believes in Jones ‘near and long’ term

  1. I feel fairly good about Jones being ready week 1. He doesnt need to be rushing 50yds per game, just able to play under center. Our offense struggled when he had to start working from the gun with his tibia injury

Hopium is we get him on a relatively cheap 2yr deal, and he picks up where he left off

  2. I mean, what else is he supposed to say. He needs to commit to a QB for longer then 12 months for once or he is getting canned. Irsay (Jim and Carlie) have harped on the stability of the position for a while. AR was Jim’s solution and Jones is Carlies. You can tell Carlie just wants to run a team back for once in the past decade and changing coach and GM is a bad idea for that from what she has expressed. Idk I like Jones for now at least. He could be our Kurt Warner (Cardinals version) or our Alex Smith (Chiefs version).

  3. Idk about pinning long term QB play on a player that has only played 1 full season in his entire career. Lol

I suspect we’ll overpay a little on a 2 year deal, get 10 games out of DJ next season and 8 the season after before letting him go. Really exciting stuff for the future!

  4. Leonard if he can keep it up is a fantastic and cheap insurance policy!

We just need jet fuel for the front 7. We need that guy that rallied the troops man. We need a Darius Leonard type of dude.

  5. Just get a real backup, one you’re not afraid to put in while Jones is only lightly hurt. If you want him to last, you can’t let him go out there and be walking wounded week in, week out, that’s how we ended up losing him.

If we run him back next year with nothing stronger than Leonard or AR behind him, we will know that Ballard has learned nothing.

We need a backup who can give us a real chance to win while Jones rests. Not just one that we can pretend not to be afraid to use but never actually put in the field until we have no choice.

  6. I know the narrative around here is that the team was completely falling apart before Jones got hurt, which is kind of true, but I want to be just a tiny bit positive here for once. In the two games Jones played before tearing his Achilles while dealing with the fracture, Chiefs and Texans, I thought he played really well, honestly. That Texans game especially I thought he made some awesome throws and wa slept down late in the game by bad calls, a missed XP and some drops.

The colts lost 4 games with pre-Jones injury all by one possession. I’d be glad to have him back next season and beyond, tbh, just need a competent backup plan and better pieces on the front 7 defensively.
