Will Bengals Lose OC Dan Pitcher to Division Rival? Who Would Replace Him?
Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher is generating interest from the Cleveland Browns. Will he be Cleveland’s next head coach?
Dan Pitcher is interviewing for a promotion in Cleveland, and Zac Taylor once again faces the possibility of losing one of his top assistants. James Rapien and Jake Liscow break down the possibility than Pitcher takes a head coaching job as the NFL coaching carousel gets busier, and what the Bengals would do to backfill the offensive coordinator position. A Brian Callahan reunion could make sense, and there’s no heir apparent the way the Bengals had Pitcher ready to take the promotion after Callahan’s departure in 2024.

The incredulity of James about those not wanting Callahan back is hilarious. I wonder what the process will be, James?
Will they just call Brian or interview others? We know what it will be and that is the issue. Just like Zac hiring his neighbor Al Golden.
I hate to say it, but quit it. Brian Callahan, or Pitcher and even Zac Taylor, they are riding the coat tails of Joe Burrow. They are not innovative, the schemes are stale. They are mediocre offensive coaches, with elite offensive weapons.
So the problem is Zac’s unwillingness to give up play calling. Would make sense to add McDaniel or Callahan otherwise or Harbaugh as special teams coach and in game decisions support so Zac can focus on play calling but Callahan is probably the only one willing to take a job and only if he gets play calling so expect a QB coach to get the job
Pitcher might want to remember what happened to Hue Jackson in Cleveland. Even more recent, what happened to Callahan in Tennessee. Not every coordinator is destined to be a head coach, it also has to be a great fit for the coach. Cleveland seems like a real overreach for Pitcher.
so lets review no coaching changes to the coaches that are in the bengals organization that stink and our one descent coach is getting hired by another team . fantastic. lets go next year.
We need an actual offensive minded coach. An elite offensive coach, or even a good offensive mind. I would love McDaniels. What he did with Tua. Imagine what he would do with Burrow
Why not bring Callahan back? THE OFFENSE ROCKED with him. Bengals need upgraded DEFENSE.
Baltimore is hiring a defensive minded head coach.
Rascati will get the promotion if Pitcher leaves
I believe what sparked this interview is because of what the offense looked like with joe flacco and how well flacco played. Similar to the reason why callahan got the job in Tennessee. Funny enough the browns traded us flacco and they seen what we did with him and was like damn. That's my speculation anyway.
Justin Rascati will be named offensive coordinator if Pitcher leaves.

Maintain losing. Continue losing. Continuity for what. Win now means make moves, win now means try to get better, the whole off season mantra is disgusting. I don't hear anything good from the pundits because even the pundits want change, want the coaches gone, even think any coach with joe burrow, tee higgins, and jamarr, would be as good or even better than what the current coaches
Brian Callahan would be pretty cool.
John Harbaugh would be super cool
Let's remind them of how Hue Jackson went for them to scare them.
Heck yeah! With the familiarity of offense for sure bring Brian back
Well browns are goid enough to have a 5-4 record vs joe burrow.
Losing coaches seems to really throw off this front office, same thing with contract negotiations. I swear we don't have enough front office people and I know we don't have enough scouts and coaches
Wait, y'all think this coaching class is weak? With Stefanski, Harbaugh, McDaniel, Flores, Pitch. This is a legit good coaching class
Duke and Katie will take over as OC
Offense is pretty mid. It might be a good thing to get some fresh ideas in the building. I doubt they pay top dollar for proven OC though
Are they going to hang on to the MMA O-Line guy that they hyped so much last year. I think he was disappointment.
Joe Brady?
Dan Pitcher is not qualified for an HC position because he is an OC in title only.
I wonder if Zac’s seat potentially being hot next year would make pitcher want to take the HC job he can get this cycle
So what if the bengals lose dan pitcher to the browns, who cares
10 secs into video…paused…and the painfully obvious answer is "🎵They're going back to Calli…Calli..Calli…going back to Calli…yeah I think so.🎶" There ya go Jimmy, a lil bebop dancing intro you can yoink and use for the video right before it actually happens lol
#YW 🍻🤸
Pitcher getting a courtesy interview means nothing
If hes willing to goto Cleveland
It must be serious. Why not Miami? He's a seasoned guy with a good body of work.
Why not. We would be fortunate to have Callahan back.
Also think if next season doesn't go well for Zack, and they somehow manage to hold on to Pitch…..he'll be Zacks replacement. Either him or Golden if he fully turns the corner…bc there are only 1 or 2 "Elite" coaches I think MB would go after, and none of them will be available. So if Zack coaches himself out of a job in 26', look for the usual "promote from within" from the Brown family. 💯
(I am a devout non gambler, bc I have horrible gambling luck. But I would COMFORTABLY bet on that last part of my take..and laugh all the way to the bank. 💯💯)
No one on this coaching staff should be up for a promotion
I mean Burrow, Chase, Higgins, Brown, Mike G. I think the argument could be made the offense underachieves, especially at key points (bad play design Dan.and calls which is zac) Anyone, could look good with those players. I think it be interesting if we had an elite offensive coach, it would be scary.
It amazes me anybody would be interested in any coach from this franchise.
Mike McDaniel or Joe Brady would be the best picks…..so of course that means the Bengals won't even consider either one.
Does it really matter if Pitch goes or stays Zac is calling the shots I want a GM like General Patton not like the one we have General Custer.Look at it this way a chain is no stronger then its weakest link we have at least 3.
Anyone in the Bengals organization competent enough to find other employ is gone. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s gonna be a lot of takers for the crew of the Titanic
Yes,I totally, care about my country, but gotta say I just have no confidence in our so called leaders…most are on the take…money is very powerful and unfortunately these people would sell out their mother…above all!!!😢😮😂😅
Same old story. In 2024 Burrow had an MVP season, leading in most categories for the season. And yet, by week 5, surely by week 7, anybody with an IQ above 20 could see, that the Defense needed serious help! No Pass Rush, poor safety and linebackers play. I think it’s pretty obvious that the front office really doesn’t care about winning. Let Joe entertain them and we will sell out! Pretty pathetic, when there was nothing done to help the team struggling mightily on defense. And the ultimate slap in the fans faces was to fire Lou and bring back the same lousy defense!!! I do enjoy listening to you guys and your guests. But I feel so depressed knowing what we are dealing with in the Front Office. I love the Bengals, always have since 1973! I’ve felt down a hell of a lot more than up!! Everyone, EVERYONE, knows the real problem, POOR MANAGEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He ain’t going anywhere. He ain’t HC material
So just what is the relationship between Pitcher and Zac. Zac is the play caller. What exactly does Pitcher contribute during the game. I mean Callahan was in over his head. He tried to call plays ( ala his mentor Zac) and it was a disaster for their offense. Would the same happen to Pitcher. Would he try and call the offense like he learned it from Zac? Doomed to failure because not much running and he would not have a "Burrow" to run the one dimensional offense. Even with Burrow, Chase and Higgins we've seen Zac's offense run hot and cold in the same game. buffalo game they were on fire …for 1/2 the game then nothing in the second half. Same with the recent Cleveland game.
Wow. The Bengals didn’t fire Zac Taylor? EVERY fired coach is way better than him. Next year’s win total will be 5 or less.
We have never had a OC, Zach Taylor is a control freak.
James, you went from firing Zac to really bringing it all back + 1 bring it back lol. This team needs to hear something new and something different and maybe it comes from a new OC with different words and a new way… I like Brian Callahan and have nothing against him but this team needs to hear something different because it brings a new excitement and alerts players for a new challenge. Our new O-Line coaches truly gave new life to those players because they got to learn and hear a new way of things. Scott Peters himself may be a very good head coach material. Half the battle is getting players to buy in to what your saying. He just looks like a head coach to me. If Pitcher leaves I'd be all for McDaniel and this would also tell Zac that your 2026 better be good because the replacement could've just arrived.
How about Zac taylor becomes OC and we get a new HC?
Callahan a better play caller on offense
Pitcher has a chance to work with Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland has a good Defense, if you don't want him in the division say so.
If I am Dan Pitcher, I am not necessarily interested in a head coaching job. There are several defensive minded coaches that will take head jobs in this cycle and will need a take-charge offensive coordinator who can call plays. If he can get connected with one of these teams, he can get some offense management and play calling on his resume to make himself more attractive to teams in the future. I can see him wanting to look elsewhere because what could become of Zack Taylor in a couple of years? If Zack gets let go at the end of his contract, where does that leave Dan Pitcher? A move now and he can enhance his standing in a couple of years. I could see him moving to a team like the Detroit Lions who just fired their offensive coordinator because he couldn't call plays. Jared Goff is similar in quality to Joe Burrow and scheming for him will be similar. The only thing he would have to deal with in Detroit is not having Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to throw to. However, their running attack is far better than the Bengals ground game, so he might like that.
Just make Pitch the Head Coach in Cincinnati and make everyone happy
The bengals need to improve the offensive scheme. The run game is inconsistent. How often do we ever have guys open from the scheme vs their talent?
I would call Mike McDonald now – even if Pitcher stayed. I’d make him Asst. HC in charge of run game. Another brain would be great.
