Maybe you don’t understand roster construction with modern analytics then?
The Mets are going to be great this season
More like 18
8? absurd lol
These rankings have little to no impact on the team’s actual performance.
There’s plenty of hype surrounding tong McLean benge jett and sproat. At least 1-2 will be really impactful this year, not to mention other guys like acuna Baty Vientos and Christian Scott that have a the talent to be all stars this year. People forget about the pedigree of those guys quickly after a few months of a down season or injury. Plenty of reason to believe we can be top 8
WOW that’s hilarious
I don’t think we’re worse than the Orioles or Cubs. Who else is there, really? The Padres and Tigers? I don’t think we’re worse than them, either.
I mean we have 2 of the 12 best players in baseball its not that crazy
I do too, and not even close. MLB definitely the Mets to be good.
I believe that the production they will get from Baty and Alvarez in ’26 will be better than most Mets fans are expecting. I would be shocked if they don’t continue the progress they both showed at the end of last season. I also don’t think most fans understand how much the defense of the position players who have left this offseason affected the teams run prevention and ability to win close games. As Stearns said in his post season press conference a team going 0-70 when behind entering the 9th inning is an “inexplicable” statistic. Something was just not working with that group to go 38-55 w a $340m payroll. Other than the loss of Diaz which I don’t think was at all supposed to happen I have no problem with any moves made so far. Polanco replaces Nimmo’s production. Semien will have a higher war than McNeil at 2B. We are not going to wholly replace Pete’s production but they are not done yet in the outfield. We have the 7th best farm system out of 30 teams so there are options to improve the roster. Have faith Mets fans!

“This team still has MVP candidates in Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor, all kinds of young talent and plenty of money to spend if it needs to. There is zero need for despair here.”
No, this team just isn’t in nearly as bad of a spot as most of the reactionary fans think
i mean, they almost made it to the world series and then added juan soto. they should be higher honestly, not sure wtf happened last year.
Maybe but the Orioles are currently 9….maybe we are better than the Orioles….:)
I’m still too traumatized by the Braves to not have them in the top 10.
stop being such a mets fan
Realistically we are around spot 20-25. Our pitching has not improved. And our overall offense drastically plummeted. Our defense slightly increased.
We are a top 10 team in spending and fan base i guess….
Hey we have Soto and Lindor and McLean .. those 3 make up #8
This seems awfully premature not knowing our
Final team, or more importantly, the teams were playing head to head’s final team yet.
The competition has a vote
Watching the ’25 playoffs it was so obvious the difference between the Mets position players ability to defend their position and the players on the better teams. Nimmo and Alonso both had poor range at their respective positions. Semien will help whomever is playing 1B to get balls in the hole that Pete couldn’t get close to. Nimmo also has a weak arm at whatever OF position he plays. Soto is an inferior fielder but you can afford to have one of those in the lineup but not many others.I loved both of those guys but they (and McNeil) were not going to get better either at the plate or in the field as they got older. Let’s face it. That core had bad seasons in ’21, ’23, and ’25. Stearns did not blow it up in ’24 because of the late season run they had. It was time.
Just another MLB thing to keep the uninformed happy. We know better
I genuinely feel like a lot of this is emotional. Not that it’s wrong to admit the loss of Alonzo and Diaz was tough and hasn’t really been properly replaced, but if they do go get a bellinger and throw in another proven arm, that along would quell a lot of this. I don’t really hate the not messing up the future right now to “go for it” this year. We have a solid team but imo not really a WS team. We add a few pieces and we most deff have a shot. I’d agree tho however that they seem to be relying a little too heavily on a lot of what-ifs and I wish they’d flex the wallet a bit more for some assurance via proven players. That can still happen tho.
Red sox?
The only core the Mets have right now is Gary, Keith, and Ron, the best broadcast team in baseball.
why not?
I want this team to be better than fans expected and make them shut up
What’s so surprising?
Mets are a 90 win team easy money 💰 as soon as they sign Framber & Belli.
This fanbase is embarrassing.
Who is ahead of them? The Braves maaybe
Mets are still in good shape 👌🏽
I guess you think we should be 31st?? 🤔
People keep saying this shit but every predictive model out right now has them as a top 10 team.
You have to understand that a huge portion of their struggles last year was attributable to 1) staggeringly bad sequencing luck and underperformance of base runs/weighted runs created and 2) bad pitching. They now have a full season of McLean, which gives them a clear number 1 pitcher, and that will be a big help. But most of their improvement this coming year is literally just going to be mean regression. They’re not going to underperform their base runs by 50-100 runs again. They’re not going to have historically terrible BABIP luck with RISP for 4 months of the season. They’re not going to hit into nearly as terrible sequencing luck.
Then all the dumbass talking heads will try to attribute it to some random bullshit like clubhouse culture.
I have a feeling the understandable dread most fans feel is going to be different than how the experts/rest of the league sees us. I HOPE the fans who feel disheartened (myself included) are wrong and I hope lists like this are closer to the truth.
I’m not a baseball expert. I’m just a dude who hates that four of his favorite players (two who are legitimately great players) are gone in the offseason after the team massively failed. So hopefully I’m wrong about my expectations.
I bet mets to win the NL East next year while the odds are still around 2:1. They won’t be 2:1 after the doom and gloom in the local media subsides.
