Hayes’ shocking answer to who is better: Maple Leafs or Canadiens?
Just past the midway point of the season, the Canadiens sit atop the Atlantic with 56 points while the Maple Leafs are a point back of a wild card spot with 49 points. OverDrive Host Bryan Hayes and TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron share their thoughts on which team is better.

Canadiens have really turned a corner, it's unbelievable the progression we're seeing from this group.. while i do feel there's a few pieces missing to actually become that legitimate contender. i do think they'll be a tough out come playoff (IF THEY MAKE IT) so no they are not quite there yet lol, but one thing is for certain, with the Young Star talent, that is THE NOW, like Demidov, Kapanen, Slafkovsky, Hutson, and the like. and those coming up the pipeline. Hage, Zharovsky… Bryce Pickford!!!! Haah. THIS TEAM will be knocking on the door for many years, and eventually will beat it down! 🤗🤗 lol
Habs are better in every way. Suzuki is better than Matthews, Caufield is better than Nylander, Slaf is better than Tavares, Hutson is better than Reilly, Dobes Primeau is better than Stolarz Woll, Montreal is a better city than Toronto. About the only thing Leafs win is Chief is better than St Louis.
This is only shocking if you haven't been watching any NHL hockey this season.
Leafs cope is insurmountable.
The Habs by a mile that’s not supposed to be a question more faster , more Skill , more heart and still young
Toronto is hurting, not there year. They traded the wrong player!
Bring the rivalry back (Toronto vs Montreal)!
Stick to golf, Hayes.
Just becuase you have star players it doesn't mean the leafs are good. All under achievers.
These 2 teams are not close. With the injuries to…habs are playing this well
Canadians have a better culture and staff and that’s where it counts before you do anything with a roster.
Took the the habs the past 10 years to look anything but awful. But anyway like the Bob Dylan song " we ain't going nowhere " remains the habs theme song for now and at least the next 5 years . Lots of dwarfs on this hab club . Wait till game 70 and then see where the Habs are searching for a wildcard playoff spot
ARE BLIND OR STUPID YOU NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE HABS
THAT YOUR NETWORK SHOW A LOT OF HABS GAMES.
SAD
lol toronto media coping so hard
The only team that scares me as playoff match ups is the Habs and Washington. I'll take on any other team.
Hayes smoking too much of the green stuff
Hayes hasn't been right in the head since 2021 habs in 7 !
leafs are lightyears a better team canadians fans are the most dillusional fans in the league
Habs all the way not even close. For the next 10 years they are cup contender.Habs will do what leafs and oilers did not win the cup in the contender Window
Hayes bias is obvious…no objectivity whatsoever.
But they wont bite the hand that feeds them.
Only leafs fans would talk about how their better than teams that are significantly higher in the standings and have lost every game to this season. That Hayes is a meathead. Such horrible takes.
Leafs in the top 5?….thats delusional
Any conversation to help keep the laffs relevant, i guess…
Hayes a bit in denial of how great the habs are and how average the leafs are
The Habs have better management. The Habs have players that care.
Habs are in great shape, and there are a lot of stories to like. I love the emergence of Slafkovsky as a leader on the team. Lots of Habs fans were very critical of him prior to the season opener – nobody is complaining now that he is making superstars out of Demidov and Kapanen.
Suzuki, Caufield and Hutson are all also headed for career years, and they're playing like a team without conflicting egos.
Although he's currently injured, Alex Newhook has been a very important part of the team as well. Getting him back will be a big deal.
Getting Ghule back will be a big deal, too. Habs need a solid 3rd line defenseman who can take some of those heavy minutes from Matheson. The machine is working well for now, but Mike Matheson is a single-point-of-failure on the Habs' defense – at the moment, if Mike were to go down, the Habs would be in some big-time trouble. Let's hope we don't have to find that out.
Lastly…how about that Texier? Feelgood story of the year, to me. This kid came into the league a few years back with a lot of promise that he wasn't really able to live up to…he was on his way out when the Habs caught him, and he seems to have found new life in Montreal. He looks very comfortable and plays like he belongs there and that he's grateful for the opportunity to play. I hope it is a wave that he can ride for a few years at least, and get some momentum back.
The leafs streak isn’t even crazy there’s like 4 teams in the east with better streaks
