In his recent media session, PG was asked about his thoughts on his place in the overall scheme of things in Philadelphia. He shared that he has no problem embracing the role he has been given, aware that it is better for the team in the overall picture.

"Obviously, Joel, Tyrese are our two engines. Those guys are going to, rightfully so, demand attention, demand the ball in moments to score and put up points for us and, you know, I gotta fit in, find my own shots, my opportunities and moments to be aggressive. That's what I'm trying to do," Paul said on how he is approaching his role with the Sixers.

"Defensively, I know I can still be elite. I can still make plays, can still get us extra possessions, limit the offense's best player or make things tough for the opposing player. And just be a calming voice to keep us on an even keel. That's the kind of role I have taken," he pointed out.

  1. To be fair, at least he knows his role. He’s still a valuable 3 and D piece. Obviously the contract doesn’t equate to the value he brings, but at least he’s not completely cooked and useless or trying to force a larger role that he’s not capable of.

  2. Both Joel and PG know they’re not their prime versions anymore, and both take a step back to let Tyrese and VJ cook, instead of hijacking the offense. This teams been a great watch with everyone healthy, I’m not worried about the record

  3. After watching the game last night, anyone who says he’s cooked is a goddamned moron. I counted at least 7 plays where he drove hard to the hole with authority. Two of those plays even resulted in a miss where he grabbed his own offensive rebound and then put it back in, both times fighting through elbows. He was a fuckin beast last night AND he gave us solid defense and knows where to be on the floor at all times.

I wasn’t happy when we signed him, but I’m very happy to be proven wrong. 35 years old in his 16th season and he’s actually playing tougher basketball than he’s played since probably 2022.

Let’s hope the swan song continues for both our old and hobbled boys, looking not so old and not so hobbled!

  4. He’s also the person best at getting his own shot at the end of games. Might also be your closer

  5. Him in a smaller role is fine, he simply just has to be more efficient. Currently he’s fine on 3s but not great on midrange shots, some of his worst numbers in years from those ranges

  6. I went from having a very one sided beef with PG and praying on his downfall to loving this man like he is my family. Worth every penny!!!!!

  7. Just remember this guy is doing what we wanted Tobias Harris to do for 5 and a half years.

When Tobi had high scoring games, it rarely felt impactful.

PG gets buckets when we really need a guy to make an impact and I appreciate that more than anything else

  8. He’s been doing everything we’ve needed this year, he’s been great, just overpaid a bit. This kind of player is everything we’ve been asking from Tobias lol
