One of the dumbest (recent) things our fanbase did was embracing Stanek and rejecting Maton.
Maton was by *far* the better pitcher after we acquired both of them, but Stanek had a better week in the playoffs, and everyone forgot which one was good.
I don’t wish him any direct harm, but GOOD BYE
I honestly always wished we had resigned Maton over Stanek. Maton was better over a larger sample size. With that said, Stanek was fantastic when it mattered the most in last year’s playoff run. He seems like a good dude….I wish him luck except when he plays us.

If you’re a Cards fan looking here, investigating how we feel about your new pickup… Seeing this man come thru those bullpen doors every other night was like seeing your way too friendly uncle coming into your room after a night of drinking. When he’s through doing what he do, all hope is lost.
I remember reading that apparently Stanek’s stuff apparently graded out as nasty last year…sure didn’t feel like it though. Would explain why he never got DFA’d I guess.
I loved him when we picked him up, but he just couldn’t be consistent with us. Hope he bounces back!
If the allegations of Mendoza mishandling the bullpen are true, I expect Stanek to do well on the Cards if their manager/coaches do it better.

For a team that is clearly punting on 2026, why spend $4.5 million on a middle reliever. There’s probably a ton of AAA guys that can use the experience.
