I don't count prospects as the players who've established themselves as top NHLers like Schaefer and Ritchie. Guys who are playing in the pros with no threat of demotion. Prospects are those who are "prospected" to make it and haven't yet arrived, or in the beginning. Schaefer should win the Calder and Ritchie's prospect status is now toast since he's become a permanent fixture as Brock's replacement.
I have Ecklund, Poletien, Aitcheson, Eiserman, and Pulkkenin. Honorble mentions are guys like Danny Nelson and Quinn Finley. Marcus Gidlof would ideally be Sorokin's backup and successor. Dufur and Odelius? Who knows?
My list:
1. Eklund
2. Gamzin
3. Aitcheson
4. Eiserman
5. Poletin
6. Prokhorov
7. George
8. Kvasnicka
9. Nelson
10. Gidlöf/Romano/Pulkkinen/Finley
I’m going for:
1. Gamzin
2. Eklund
3. Kvasnicka
4. Eiserman
5. Aitcheson
6. Gidlof
7. Poletin
8. Finley
9. Nelson
10. Maggio / Veilleux / Prokhorov / Bednarik
Watching a lot of KHL games. Gamzin will be great! I'll will go: Eklund, Gamzin, Poletin, Aitcheson and Eiserman.
Eklund is small. Eiserman has not made the strides expected from last year. Aitcheson seems to be Romy 2.0. We need more kicks of the can and I genuinely have concerns in any of them coming to NHL in next 2-3 years. I like Nelson as 4th liner. Maggio is bust. Jeffries can be on 4th line. Anything can happen, but they have not made strides to improve from last year
MATCHOO DOWSH
i know he's not a prospect, but my favorite AHL Islanders has been Beckman. Every game I've been to, he has been a standout player. Might just be a coincidence.
Quinn Finley deserves respect. He had as many points as Cole Eiserman last year, with 20 goals and 20 assists in 40 game, and he's doing the same thing with 11 points in 10 games.
Schaefer and Ritchie have graduated from my prospect ranks. My top 5 Isles prospects would be:
1 – Eklund
2 – Nelson
3 – Aitcheson
4 – Eiserman
5 – Poletin
HM – Finley, George, Prokhorov
I didn't include Gamzin/Gidlof as I've never seen them play and predicting goalies seems like voodoo to me. My most important factor is likelihood of making the NHL. I don't care how many points you score in another league, if you never make the NHL you can't help the team. Second factor is productivity ceiling.
For example, I have Nelson ahead of Eiserman because I think its pretty likely that 6'3" Nelson will be a bottom six center even though his ceiling for point production is fairly limited. Eiserman's ceiling is much higher but its looking less likely that he has the rest of the game to make the NHL. Aitcheson is ahead of George even though George has already played some games in NHL because Aitch seems pretty likely to make the NHL and he has a higher ceiling than George.
I still think Eiserman is the most important prospect because if he does reach his ceiling then he can help Schaefer take the Isles to Cup contender status.
Gamzin has made a massive leap forward and he was already pretty highly touted, very similar post draft trajectory as Sorokin. Top 3 Prospect for sure, and has been so good I thought maybe that’s why you made the video.
Eiserman hopefully pans out to be better than Whalstrom was for us. Wahlstom isn’t even playing at the NHL level anymore.
