NOW is the TIME!!!

The San Antonio Spurs have just assigned rookie forward Carter Bryant to their G League affiliate, the Austin Spurs — a move focused on development and getting him more consistent minutes. Bryant, the 14th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, has shown flashes of defensive potential and athleticism but struggled with his shooting and consistency in limited NBA minutes, averaging just 2.1 points and 1.6 rebounds this season before the assignment.

Sochan, a key early pick for the Spurs and a defensive spark, has seen his role shrink this season amid rotation changes and trade rumors. Although he’s still valued for effort and versatility, limited offensive output and lineup shifts have made his minutes less certain.
In this video I’ll break it all down: Why the Spurs are sending Bryant to Austin? What it means for Sochan’s future with the Spurs?

  1. Do you think it was a good idea to send Carter to Austin? Do you think (or want) Jeremy to get more playing time now? Thank for watching and GO SPURS GO!

  2. It would be nice if any of our PGs could learn how to play pick and roll instead of ISO bricks. CP3 had been doing it great with Jeremy last year. CB needs reps with a ball and he will get those in Austin but he will not learn D there in G. He needs to be back with Spurs for it.

  3. I agree the move of Carter will be better for him and the team. I also feel Jeremy needs to reclaim his role. I was frustrated that Carter was getting minutes in the rotation and Sochan was riding the bench. I am a fan of both players and believe we need them both to get more time to develop. Remember that both SGA and Brunson were NOT given time by the teams that drafted them and were traded and became all stars. The Spurs do it right and let players develop. Everyone should benefit from this move.

  4. 1. Carter Bryant needs 10-15 games in the G-League getting 25 minutes per game (minimum) before he even tries to dunk again at the NBA level. Spurs many need him for star-matchup-D in the playoffs, so i hope he finds his rhythm. 2. Hints of Sochan's 'hitch' are back in the shot; i don't see how a totally non-shooting big fits in this rotation, at all, no matter how good the 1-on-1 D. Hopefully he can surprise us with half-decent shooting, but it's unlikely. I REALLY like CB long term, and I still have small hopes for Sochan, but between the two I think Spurs investing time and support in CB makes a lot more sense.

  5. Those who are criticizing Carter Bryant should have a look to several scouting reports about him. His current performances are not surprising. He is a long-term project…
Carter Bryant, in his rookie season in college, had very limited playing time. He wasn't expected to perform well in his first season in NBA. Almost everybody was expected him to start in G.league (and not in NBA) but the Spurs' management have decided to let him in the Spurs' roster, surely to learn the life of a NBA player.
He will now get plenty of minutes in G.league to develop his offensive skills. Defensively he is already very impressive (Rich, I totally disagree when you are stating that Carter is struggling both ends. He is already a great on-ball defender, not far from being the best in the roster !!!).

Please find here the stats of Tidjane Salaun (who didn't play in G.league last season but in november because his first games in october have been terrible) :
    2024 : 21 minutes – 5.9 pts / 4.7 rbds / 1.2 asts / 0.5 stls / 0.2 blck – 33% and 28% at 3. (if you divide his stats by 3 [playing time], you exactly get the Carter Bryant's stats !!!).
    2025 : 17 minutes – 6.5 pts / 4.2 rbds / 0.8 asts / 0.5 stls / 0.3 blck – 51% and 43% at 3. (his stats in october this season was quite similar of 2024's ones before to spend one month in G.league).
It seems that his period in G.league was very beneficial…

The scouting reports about Tidjane were also talking about a long-term project.
Both Tidjane and Carter are very raw players who will need time to develop. Their ceiling is both becoming a great 3&D (such as Jaden McDaniels).

If Carter Bryant is providing the same stats than Tidjane when he will come back from G.league, I will be more than happy…

  6. Good idea at this point. Not his fault genius head coach Mitch Johnson rather play olynik, McLaughlin, and waters. All those minutes should have been carters including Jeremy’s missed minutes. He’d be much better by now. He obviously lacks confidence because he doesn’t feel like they trust him. Spurs slipping in player development and scouting where they used to be the best. They should have payed Sam presti.

  7. Austin 3:16 says "WHAT" took them so long to do this?
Am glad Carter will get the necessary reps and experience in a lower pressure environment to develop his skills. Without sounding too sour on the organization, it is reasonable to question why this took so long, as it was apparent this needed to happen for some time now. Perhaps it's just the Spurs nature to not abandon a direction too quickly, even to a detriment. The point-Sochan experiment for example, continued on far longer than it should have despite how obvious a mistake it was.

  8. There's been points in the season where they have Kelley in the game bricking five 3s in a row and giving up points on the other end and I'm like Jeremy could do the same but at least play defense like a beast. Maybe mitch is trying to break him like the old stories you hear about pop but he deserves to be on this team, he's a glue guy that you need for a championship run in the future.

  9. Enjoy your content and I definitely hope you read this I'm a long-time spur of fan since 1973 I have seen it all I've been to quite a few things concerning the Spurs history, For whatever my two senses is worth I feel sorry for Jeremy Sohan because ever since we have had him has a Spur we have not fully developed him who have asked Sohan to play so many different roles in where so many different hats with the team was poorly put together and not developed. Now that we have a stack team it is sad to see that we don't have a place for him. I was hoping he would fill the role since he likes to color his hair like Dennis Rodman did become a great rebounder and a great defender he would never be a great or a good three-point shooter at all , his defense and hustle can be a big asset and I would not give up on him right now

  10. Growing up my favorite spurs player was Bruce Bowen: the defense, and high IQ to get under peoples skin, and hitting corner 3s. I think Sochan can be that for the Wemby Spurs. Bowen didn’t become a corner sniper till he was 30!!! Let’s give Sochan some time to find that same role and impact.

  11. Once again SPURS are known to develop their players and I agree with you TSR. This is a good move for Carter. This will give him more playing time and time to develop.

  12. Trade Sochan to Clippers for almost nothing. Thunder own thier draft pick and he will give the Clips more wins…indirectly harming OKC. Good for him, addition by subtraction for Spurs and bad for Thunder. Pure genious.

  13. Yes, the right move! Hope Carter's stay in Austin is for the rest of the year. Maybe bring him back for a game here and there, but keep Jeremy getting regular rotation minutes.

  14. Everyone is quick to point out that Carter barely plays but also say that this frees Jeremy Sochan to play more minutes. This is simply illogical. Bryant consistently plays garbage time. Sochan is fighting against (at the moment) between Johnson, Kornet, Wemby, Barnes, and Kelly for playing time. Yes, they're throwing Sochan in more often, but I'm not completely sold. Everyone has been on a slump lately. Especially Fox, Harper, and Barnes. I'd assume these slumps is what will determine Sochan's availability (if they're trying to win). If not, like you said, they could be trying to increase his trade value because, as it stands, this season, he's not worth much as he doesn't get playing time. Even if he did, it's still not much as he hasn't really developed in 4 years. Like you said, if Carter Bryant doesn't change in 3 years, he might be a bust. This is Sochan right now. A 9th pick who isn't lottery talent and is a bench player. I know he cares about his team and his teammates, but he also tends to start fights, which simply isn't the classic Spurs way. I wish the guy well on his career, but I really don't see how he fits with this team

  15. #1 the kids not a bust He still needs to learn the game going to Austin is not a debotion. #2. Sochan wasn't showing anything. He was a . He was a liability it is only a until recently he started to come around. You know as well as I do that you guys got to earn your trust on that team and the homies been letting us down Carter's gonna be the future for this team. Citing that article is just another issue about at times about places like this you pull it out there and then when the kid turns around we don't ever see backtrack

  16. Watched CB 1st G league game yesterday. He was rocking it! 2 blocks in under 5 sec, dunk, and 3 point shooting. Great strategy and he will be a monster with these reps. Was balling with Garcia! Let him roll for at least 10 games to gain the moves and confidence
