You can forget about the Pirates getting Suarez now. He’s going to be wearing red very soon.

I knew he was going to get paid, but that’s a significantly bigger AAV than I expected. I was expecting any 30. Though I did also think he was going to get 6 or 7 years, so maybe the Cubs just bought out those extra years with extra money over a shorter contract.

Thing is they’re basically replacing Kyle Tucker with Bregman who’s older and frankly worse. So they’re basically technically didn’t get better. I mean obviously we need a real third baseman but I’m not too worried about this signing compared to the 2025 cubs.
Baseball salaries are crazy.

I’d rather have another outfielder. Austin Hays would be nice. If Griffin plays most of the year at shortstop or somebody else fills in admirably then Triolo is fine at third. Hays lets you sit some of your left handed hitters against tough lefties. Sub in whatever right handed hitting outfielder you want if you don’t like Hays. We are not signing Suarez and we are not trading Harrington or other near MLB ready pitchers. That means Bohm and Jung are not going to happen. Maybe Moncada could happen and be a good move. I’d still want a right handed bat in the outfield.
He’s now a top 10 paid player in baseball and hits .265 and is solid. It’s a terrible deal. He’s a fine player. But not top 10 in the league. Cubs will regret it after 2 years
Can you guys stop acting like Bregman isnt a great player. Sure its a lot of money but Cubs are in win now mode.
Basically Suarez or bust, and Suarez might be one of the worst defensive 3B in baseball too.
At this point we just need 1 more bat no matter the position honestly.
The list is Tucker, Bellinger, Bichette, Suarez
Bellinger is at an “impasse” with New York, but its reported they offered him a 5 year deal for at least 30 mil a year, so I doubt the Pirates are the mystery team there outbidding the Yankees.
Tucker is a pipe dream
Bichette can;t play third or SS anymore frankly, he is gonna move to 2nd which isn;t really a need unless we throw Lowe on permanent DH
