Penguins SWEEP weekend back-to-back in chaotic fashion!

The Penguins’ winning streak is now at five games thanks to an incredible comeback against the Blue Jackets! Hunter and Patrick begin the show with the first victory of the weekend, an absolute defensive masterclass against the Detroit Red Wings (1:30). They look at the team’s whole body of work defensively, how Yegor Chinakhov scored his first goal as a Penguin (6:00), and so much more. Then, with their backs to the wall, the Penguins were able to erase a 4-1 deficit and turn it into a 5-4 overtime win against Columbus (11:40). The captain had another brilliant performance, and so did the fourth line. Finally, the Penguins get a few days off after a rough stretch of games, but some big games loom this week. (23:12).

  2. I was at the game Saturday afternoon in Detroit. I’ve seen 7 pens games in person in the last decade or so. That whole game, I was in disbelief how well we were looking. Soooo good.

  3. The Detroit game was just a clinic … the Columbus game was grit and determination. And I know Crosby and the stars will get the headlines … as they should … but the Pens have a legit 4th line now, and those three dragged them back into the fight when they were down 4-1.

The thing that stood out most, to me, on Saturday, was when I was watching the NHL game summary and noticed that the Red Wings' twelfth shot was added to the scoring with a little over eleven minutes left in the third period. They went over 11 minutes without allowing a shot, and that included two minutes of 6 on 5 empty net action. And, if I'm remembering correctly, Detroit didn't register a shot on goal, at the start of the game, until eight or ten minutes into the game.

  8. Blake Lizotte is legit the unsung hero of this team, I seriously think he's one of their most important players outside of the stars. He works so hard every shift and it rubs off on everyone else lol. How they play with him in the lineup and how they play without him speaks for itself.

  9. Hunter, i will say I am warming up to novak because of his recent play and hes taken some cheap shots (elbow, etc.) and hasn't let up. Im hoping he can continue. When malkin comes back I can see a third line of novak- kindel- china and that doesnt sound too bad. I think rut and kouvi could use more playing time and confidence from playing in the ahl. Next season they should be locks in the line up.

  10. I would not be so hard on Shilovs for Sunday. he was battling, and he made the first save on 2 of the goals against, and the defense wasn't anywhere around to help with the rebound / late skater coming in. Given he was facing breakaways, I can't fault him.
    his play in the 3rd was really key.

    No matter what his numbers are, I like Shilovs battle. He doesn't get down on himself, and doesn't hang his head, he just keeps fighting. That means a lot to me.

  11. Pens are playing Cup Contender Hockey lately. Never expected to see that out of this group.

    Past Cup Contenders played like this and spent the 2nd half of the season refining and becoming more and more consistent.

    I'll be surprised if they are good enough to go all the way – even playing their best – but stranger things have happened. Especially in a season like this with no great teams in the East.

  12. Hunter, AND that come back was more impressive because it was the second game in a row AND their 5th game in 8 days!!! That is incredible heart to play that way, unbelievable ❤Love it! It's so nice they have, and earned, 3 days off now before New Jersey. Love the show guys, thank you! Last, is this another Dubas masterclass with Chinakov?!

  14. Great week for the pens. With the schedule i was thinking they go 2 and 2 it would have been good. 4 and 0 week was just incredible. I try not to get to high or to low on this team but they're playing some good hockey right now

  15. Loved the intro lol. Two great Pens games and an insane Steelers game too! What an epic Pittsburgh sports weekend. And with 49 points in 41 games, the Pens having a similar second half should be enough to get them in the playoffs. 100 or so points gets them in I would think
