Who will be the 2026 3rd Baseman in Pittsburgh? (Ep.24)
In this episode of my Pittsburgh Pirates podcast, I break down the 3rd base position. Who realistically are in the running to be the Pirates Opening Day 3rd Baseman? Is Kazuma Okamoto still an option? I cover this in today’s episode!

What about jared trillo I have him in fantasty lol
offer Geno Suarez 42 mill for 2 years
Mark Vientos – 30+ HR potential – was great in playoffs a couple years ago. 3rd base defense may be iffy but Triolo can come in late for him.
Moncado platooning with Triola with Triola as a defensive replacement makes sense, putting Gonzales at ss until our savior arrives. The health is a risk but we would be limiting his playing time and if he does get hurt, we'll just play Triolo.
Why don’t people think we should go for a catcher and keep triolo for def
how about Bregman
Curious what Okamoto is going to sign for. I heard we had a formal offer of their asking price. We were at $64mm plus incentives to take it to $70mm solid offer that should have got him.
Miguel Andjuar would be a affordable consolaztion prize if they miss on Kaz. Can Platoon with Triolo & DH. Hes familiar with this team & Division, had great batting numbers last year hitting +.300, and still only age 30.
With pitching the foundation of this team as it should be .Fielding defense is part of it Winning teams need balance fielders players make contact get on base gritty hard-nosed players If Konnor Griffin SS it is Fine Triolo 3B Mangum out elite fielder Triolo elite fielder Davis elite fielder C if Griffin starts he 1 prospect baseball ⚾
Might help if you toss in players HRs and rbi's when you talk about their stats
First choice would be Isaac Paredes, but I can see the Astros not wanting to pull the parachute on that guy yet. He's decent and the Pirates might have to give up too much to get the Astros to move off of him at this point in time. What about some options who are just getting ready to become MLB ready? Perhaps Mikey Romero, Tommy White, Brock Wilken, Tyler Black or Mark Vientos? I believe Nick Yorke to be a competent MLB hitter in the future, but I don't see him as an adequate defensive 3rd baseman at any point in time. Nor, do I see him quite ready to produce offensively at the MLB level yet. He really needs a team who is not ready to win to just put him in the field for 40 games while he makes those last physical and mental adjustments which an MLB player needs to make to become consistent enough to keep his job at that level. That being said, Vientos appears to be the most ready and able to be had without having to empty the cupboard. My order would be none of the Free Agent choices. 1) Paredes 2) Vientos 3) Tyler Black 4) Tommy White 5) Nick Yorke 6) Mikey Romero 7) LuJames Groover – depending on what the Pirates would have to give up for any of them.
Brendan Donovan would be a good fit
Triola played good for 8 weeks. He can't be the FT 3rd baseman. If we can't spent a few million and get a real MLB player with a pedigree. We are not even at the payroll of 10 yrs ago. As time goes by we should go up not down further than we were 10 yrs ago
