Not sure I like this proposal but not sure I hate it…
Golden State Warriors get: Jordan Hawkins, Trey Murphy III
New Orleans Pelicans get: Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, 2026 first-round pick (via Warriors), 2028 first-round pick (via Warriors, top-10 protected), 2030 first-round pick (via Warriors, if No. 5 to 20)
Utah Jazz get: Kevon Looney, 2031 second-round pick (via Raptors), 2032 second-round pick (via Pelicans), Cash considerations
I really don't understand why so many people are horny for Kuminga on the Pels but if he's a good fit and he's bringing as many as three first rounders (would like to see something else if those protected picks don't convey) and he's getting New Orleans out of the Hawkins deal I'm not immediately hanging up both phones.
Not that I want them to trade Trey but at least it seems like a reasonable return. What am I missing here with Kuminga?

They don’t want us to get Kuminga, they want the Warriors to get Trey.
I would’ve traded CJ for Kuminga
that is not a godfather offer. that’s maybe the best the warriors would do, but not good enough for murphy. if they want murphy that bad they need to reroute kuminga for us, no protections on the pics, and get us more value from a third team.
clickbait
The picks are the draw, moreso than Kuminga. I still wouldn’t do that deal, with those protections.
The league is enamored with is getting shitty returns. Tbh the only calls we should be fielding are for Poole, Hawkins, and to add Zion into a multi team mega trade where we get back a plethora of picks for helping facilitate a superstar trade (like Melo, MPJ, or Giannis).
Both Warriors and Lakers have been linked to TM. They don’t have anything good to offer. To have TM, it has to have at least 4 FRPs, all unprotected, plus several pick swaps. The teams that have the goods to offer are Thunders and Spurs.
Honestly I don’t hate the idea of trading Trey if it means getting post Steph-warriors picks. Don’t mind this trade but would want the 2028 to be less protected (good chance warriors are a bottom 10 team so I would want it to be only top 4 protected).
Also, Kuminga has the chance to be a solid player. I’m not saying he’ll be anywhere near what Trey is, but he’s a young player on a team friendly contract. We’d really only be doing the trade for the picks, and anything Kuminga becomes is a bonus. And in a new situation away from Steve Kerr who knows maybe Kuminga could be a serviceable player.
