Cubs get Bregman but we can platoon two of the best hitters the league ever seen in! Looks like the buccos really are going all in this year

  1. Moancada is a fine addition I don’t know why you’d bitch about that.

Do I want Suarez? Yeah but Moncada is a good hitter if he can stay healthy.

  2. Honestly I’d rather platoon Triolo and Moncada for less money than get Saurez who I don’t think will play great in PNC and isn’t a great defensive 3rd.

Though I pretty much preferred every 3rd base option over Saurez so I’m biased.

  3. This move makes sense and is in our budget. I’d rather see them spend the money on development and extending KG

  4. Wahhhh Pirates never spend ( Pirates spend ) wahhhh Pirates wont spend more. Give it a rest, this was a great off season for us so far.

  5. Ever consider that these ā€œeveryday 3Bsā€ don’t want to play for the pirates?

  6. Sign Moncada and then all that money you would have saved on Okamoto or Eugenio they can spend on Ranger Suarez, the lefty they need.

  7. I think it’s fair to ask if all the subpar fielders they now have are starting to add up to a problem. Reynolds, O’Hearn, Lowe, Bart, Gonzo at short, and Triolo at short, are all below average to bad (yes, even Triolo. His defensive metrics at short were not great). Horwitz wasn’t a plus defender at first base either. Now potentially add Moncada.

Then there’s Cruz who has all the tools to be a great CF but hasn’t been at all.

Password and Griffin project as potential plus defenders but I doubt if either is on the team opening day.

  8. I think if Moncada stays healthy he’d actually be a really good player for us. I’d still prefer us to go the trade route for someone like Paredes though, that way Triolo can cover short until Griffin is ready instead of platooning him with Moncada.

  9. We sign 1 hitter and trade for another and yinz are all planning the next money move.

You’re buying a ticket on the Hopium Express, and it’s only going to break your heart

  10. As we’ve seen, you damn near have to force guys to come here. It wouldn’t matter who the GM is, Nutting has a well-earned reputation around baseball that he will never get out from under.

  11. This probably translates into Ben wants Suarez, but after the Bregman signing, it’s obvious that Suarez is going to be out of the price range that our gracious owner gave him. So now we have to go to the scrap heap and hope that it will platoon well with the scrap heap we already have.

I won’t blame Ben for budget restrictions, especially when he’s done very well with the money he could spend thIs offseason.
