Report: The Cleveland Browns Are Telling Head Coach Candidates They Want Jim Schwartz to Stay
The Cleveland Browns are in the middle of a head coaching search, and according to a report from Jay Glazer, they’re already setting terms. Candidates are being told that defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is expected to remain in place, signaling that Cleveland wants to preserve its defensive identity while searching for the next head coach.
In this solo reaction episode of Ultimate 216, Earl Da Pearl breaks down why this mandate tells us a lot about what Andrew Berry and Jimmy Haslam believe about the current roster. From Berry’s public comments about finding the “right partner” for the team’s present situation to reports of offensive-minded candidates being interviewed, it’s clear the Browns don’t see themselves as a bad football team — they see a broken offense attached to a proven defense.
But is dictating staff decisions during a coaching search the right move for a franchise with an inconsistent track record? With the Browns’ overall record since 2020 and the weight of another pivotal decision looming, this episode asks the central question Cleveland fans should be debating right now: does this strategy signal confidence — or does it feel like the same old Browns?

The Defense is not broken to come in and try fix it is waisting time so a potential head coach coming in wanting to start all over on defense instead of focusing 100% on offense and special teams is not needed. That means they are focused on control not winning!!
I say hire Kubiak from Seattle, and keep Shwartz. Hire Bill Callahan to get our O-line right. Restructure some contracts, ( Deshaun Watson) go after top LT free agent, or free agents. Trade for a WR, and draft Caleb Downs at 6, and young Offensive lineman with 2nd pick in 1st rd. I just feel that Downs is one of those generational talents that you can't pass up!
I have followed the Browns for decades and this ownership is the worst I have ever seen. It is amazing how they constantly shoot themselves in the foot. They set themselves up for failure before they even start. What quality HC is going to be happy being told who the DC is going to be. Would it be fair asking the HC to consider him, sure, but to be setting terms like this is ridiculous. Destined for failure.
So, your new HC can't choose his DC, QB, or style of offense. Yeah, that sounds like a great job….
Hello everyone great show

If you want Schwartz to stay…. Give him the job. They make everything harder than it needs to be
good show, you are interesting to listen too,I think with a good draft we can win the division, not the superbowl
Nah – don’t want JS as head coach- maybe give him more $$$ but keep him where he is 🧡🤎🏈
Schwartz isn't it bro! The Browns only excelled in the pass rush. That only maybe due to Myles dominance and not Schwartz coaching. Look at the Bears game and the titans game, count all the missed tackles. The run defense was ass and the secondary had too many blown coverage every game. Is this a player personal problem or a coaching problem is it continues week after week? Look at the issues with the special teams, it's all coaching problems. Look at the defenses called during games that was close and winnable! That's all Schwartz. Now to Tommy boy rees, this was his offense! He began calling plays around week 6. Chase Daniel's, kurt warner reviews of sheduer performance with all 22 video reveals that the play design by rees was horrible, but they just made a kind comment like, "this is interesting!" Or " I don't know why rees will design a play where two receivers will end up in the same area so they can be defended by one defender!" If you don't believe me, go look at the chase Daniel's film break down. The receivers ran routes that pulled two defenders into the area where shedeur would have to throw the ball. However, if one or both receivers ran the wrong routes and this is every week, than isn't that still a coaching issue? Now look at the situations, shedeur threw 80% of the time on 3rd and long situations and 80% of the time in 1st and 10 situations, they ran the ball. I watched G Bush break down those stats for Earl on a show so he knows this. Gabriel was allowed ro throw 80% of the time on 1st and 10s. You see, if shedeur is to be the guy, they definitely need to clean house in Cleveland! All the coaches are ass, not just stephanski!

I’m still just trying to figure out why does Bubba Ventrone still have a job
Earl. U said McDaniels has a lot of charisma hell no. He isn’t a leader of men have you seen his press conferences. The man stutters ain’t sure of himself. He can be an OC not a HC that would be a disaster
I guess that limits the field to Schwartz, Rees and young or desperate candidates who will follow orders
Why are they so impressed by him he's okay he's not a guru and they give up a lot of rushing yards
Basically Schwartz is a centerpiece coach that can’t be removed, but everyone else is fair game 😅
Browns Are say swaz def Cord
Watching from Washington D C
Everyone Caucasian on the Ultimatum Cleveland Sports Show sucks starting with Bull and ending with Lloyd
Yes, I agree 👍 swartz is doing a great job obviously, anyone else, should be as an assistant to him 😉
They should just make Schwartz the HC unless they can get Harbaugh.
Keep Jim Schwartz and make him the HC. Otherwise, I don't we should tell a coach who his position coaches and coordinators will be.
Get rid of everyone that was there losing they have a bad organization not just a bad offense and special teams.
You have Leroy Hoard as Miami source that can tell you all about Mike McDaniel….I don't think he likes him…never makes adjustments especially at halftime
Schwartz is an asset, and should help attract a better head coach.
Lafayette Louisiana, Kentucky transplant
HOPEFULLY THEY TELL BERRY HE'S FIRED….
You cant move forward like that
Everyone must go to make a change
Mike McDaniels is on the "list"? Oh never mind…this is a "media" narrative.
I mean they pretty much said it in those press conferences on Monday. They're only moving off of Schwartz if they have to otherwise they're going to try to keep him.
That said, AB made it clear that he's looking for a locker room leader which McDaniels and Saleh didn't really do at their last stops.
I think they either make Schwartz the HC, find a HC that will either be a CEO type that can bring in their own OC, or find a hard-nosed offensive minded HC that will hold players and coaches accountable while developing the young players.
Maybe JS won't like working with the new HC.
When you look at the great success that a coach like Mike McDaniel had his defensive coordinator was Vic Fangio. They took a below average team like Miami Dolphins who's GM was known for not knowing what he was doing and turn them into a winning franchise.
Cant make it up.
However Schwartz is going to stay. I guarantee he'll leave and posib join Stefan wherever he goes.
If it is not broke, don't fix it. Tony Dungy retained Tom Moore as the Indianapolis Colts' offensive coordinator when he became head coach in 2002, keeping the highly successful offense and its personnel intact, which was a key factor in their future success. Keeping Schwartz in place is a smart move.
I’m just excited for their top coaching candidate to say yes BUT: no andrew berry and will of course consider jim Schwartz but no guarantees.
I don’t have a problem with this at all
First of all, i wouldn't take any reporting as fact. Second, so jim swartz is OK with not getting the head coaching job and willing to work with any head coach that they bring in. Good luck with that. I don't see swartz just saying OK. Thanks for the interview. Can i keep my job, please!!!! He will have his opportunity to coach D with several other teams.
The Browns aren't serious about winning
Joke of an organization
