   Former Atlanta Hawks GM Travis Schlenk is now the Washington Wizards' Senior Vice President of Player Personnel, having joined the Wizards in 2023 after leaving the Hawks, and is known for drafting Trae Young and building the Hawks' Eastern Conference Finals team

4. Wouldn't count on Washington being contenders or anything. Trae is good, but the size and his defense is just too much of a liability. If Washington goes up against teams like Boston or Miami with smart coaches, they will target, exploit and bully Trae all night. Great passer and is a flashy player, but I just don't see him taking Washington over the top.

6. This is just a bunch of hawks fans in the comments and on the panel. It’s a win win situation for both teams. But Wizards easily won this trade simple. Wizards STILL have a future regardless of Trae hence they didn’t give up a pick or the young core, being 1 top 4 draft pick away from contention. Trae is gonna do nothing but positively affect this team. Either he’s a formidable fit for the wizards bringing them to contention, or either he isn’t so they rid of him losing nothing and he perfectly helps develop the young core and unlocks their full potential. Wizards also NEEDED to spend money on someone and that team is full of rookie contracts so where’s the money gonna go? Obviously a guy like Trae young for the cost of nothing. Low risk high reward. He literally can’t negatively affect the team. Wizards win overall in terms of cost and potential. Hawks wins on potential but only based on the outcome of Jalen Johnson.

Yall keep saying the hawks got fleeced which is cap hawks jus wanted to get rid of Trae contract obviously Washington had leverage over us they regard plus Trae young market value and we so low that not even teams like the nets wanted him , you gotta think about it majority of the team star caliber/superstar caliber players usally don’t get along in return pick and player wise for trading they player vs High elite role players like Mikal,pascal ,Og would get massive picks in return because they can fit any team and play off ball and play elite defense vs guys like Trae and Luka who are system player and can’t fit every team and contender play I don’t get the wizards glaze at all Trae went to an even worse defense and offensive team n Washington and ppl think they are contenders in the future not buying it even if they get a high draft pick next year hawks still gonna be better cuz hawks will potentially have 1st overall pick next year

14. Do you all even watch Hawks games? Zaccharie Risacher is not a bad defender. He's one of the better wing defenders on the team; his problem this year is offense. And beyond Trae young the reason the Hawks are still playing bad defense is they have not had a legitimate legitimate big man, and their coach is obsessed with small ball when the league has changed. Please know what you're talking about if you're going to speak Hawks basketball.

15. I am a Wizards fan and the trade gets an incomplete. Tre isn't going to play much this season because we have to keep our top 8 protected 1st round draft pick. 2027 determines who wins this trade. If the Wizards can rebuild his reputation and flip him for a draft pick, then they win. If not, the Hawks win, because they get cap relief and didn't have to give up any picks.

He was drafted in 2018 so is it 2028 already? Jesus this is easy math yal. Trae 27 years old, was he in the league at 17 years old? Get it together.

21. There is so many star players who don't play defense to many to name. Put Trae on the Knicks he adds more assists and can score just as good as Brunson. 23. At the end of the day is Ice Trae gonna make the young Wiz team better? I think the answer is yes. There will be a lot of DNPs the remainder of the season cuz the Wiz want that top 3 pick. Let us not forget that Trae still doesn’t have an extending contract yet. Will Dawkins is known for being the flip king here in DC. Stay tuned b ball fans.

24. If there is a loser in this trade it isn't by much. As a Wizards fan I'm happy because we are a developing team that had no Point Guard. Getting an experienced Point Guard that was/is one of the best at it will be very helpful in the 2026/27 season. Atlanta got a couple of solid NBA veterans and were able to move on from Trae to focus on the new up and comer. Two teams got what they needed. Wizards will get their first round pick in the draft and will plan from there. Would not be surprised if Trae at least stays in the Point Guard role for a while longer either way.

25. If I was a wizard, I’m not trying to give up a pic either. They got a shit ton draft picks within the next four maybe five years. Why would I give that up when I already know that he wants to come here and the Hawks don’t want to resign him so that large amount of money the Hawks had no leverage that’s why the return was what it was.
