  1. I love how he rattles off a list of guys who are literally inconsequential "tweeners" and he labels them as a success story. Aman, Bains, Mueller, Tolopilo. These guys are literally dime a dozen players that you can find for league minimum in free agency. Not to mention the fact that they aren't even young! Bains, and Aman are 25 LOL. If that's our wave of young guys that are coming, we're cooked.

  2. this management group has been a disaster. every decision was wrong starting with JRs first assessment of "We can retool fast" Despite saying that all he knew was that they had a good goalie.

  3. This is the first time they have legitimately said "rebuild" in Vancouver ever!! They need a proper management to do this right. This management team has failed miserably unfortunately.

  4. Can we just fire these guys already? Isn't it clear that nobody in the fanbase, media, etc has any faith in this plan or wants this half measures approach. We've been through this already with Benning and it's been 16 years + of mediocrity. We want a proper rebuild.

Just commit to doing it properly – scorched earth!! We need an army of prospects, not a few guys who are surrounded by aging depreciating assets in the form of these veteran players we've got. We won't get the volume of picks and players that we need to actually build a cup contending team unless we legitimately sell everybody off. It's not about mentorship, its about timing, volume, and the value of your assets. Allvin and Rutherford are just like Jim Benning and his crayons and construction paper day to day garbage.

Please make it stop and please stop hiring guys like this.

  5. Chris Faber's fall from grace to being an organization's mouthpiece needs to be studied. Alvin's hybrid re-tool is still on by the way, just wait for the winning streak.

  6. Thanks for doing this interview. It is crazy to read the comments, it sounds like the Sekeres and Price fan club. But hey, people are entitled to their opinions, including myself.

I've been super excited to watch the last few years – I'm not happy with the current results of where the big team stands, but seeing the long term growth of a real development program in Vancouver is something I am so excited for. It has been great to see the team acquire a whole new wave of young defencemen! I know it is going to take time to get them up to speed and playing in the NHL, but to think we have 3 guys already there with more knocking on the door and on the way. I'm really fascinated to see how the young forwards the team has drafted start to come together when they start to play in Abbotsford – even though gathering that forward talent feels like it has really just begun. Seeing how Lekkerimaki plays at the AHL level and is a difference maker when he is in the line up. I really hope he continues to grow and will find himself in the best position to succeed at the NHL level when the day comes.

Even watching the big club, the last time we saw more than one player come up inside a year I think it was Burrows, Bieksa and Kesler. To have seven to eight regular guys in their first NHL year on the team at one time is fantastic! I have really been impressed at how they have been improving over the course of the season. Yeah, its hard to watch sometimes, but to see these first year players go up against veteran NHL squads night after night and slowly progress from being really badly outmatched to looking pretty good at times…. I am really excited for where this team might be in 2-3 years when these young dmen are fully developed young men and have developed the skill and confidence and experience they are getting right now. I look forward to the day when no one wants to go into D-Petey's corner with him. Right now he kind of looks like the full on sophmore slump, but when it clicks for him, he is going to be a beast. I would love to see Mancini up with Vancouver right now too, but that is the beauty of how well management is doing their job, there is not a spot available for him, or Kudreyatsev, or Mynio. So I'm also happy Abbotsford is there for them to get big minutes to get better prepared for when the day comes. Under this management group we are finally actually using the farm team to actively develop players. It is interesting to me how the players Benning drafted have almost all been surpassed or moved on.

As a long time fan of the team, I am more excited for the long term future of the club than I have been in a long time. I don't yet see who the next wave of forwards are going to really be beyond Lekkerimaki and Cootes – but I have been more excited to follow along and see the progress of the prospects taken deeper in the draft. I really hope Romani, Patterson, Dervin, Bjork and Sansonnens continue to develop and grow and shine. I am excited the team can continue to select and grow prospects, hopefully into NHL players.

Faber – I continue to ask for you to get Jim Rutherford on here – and the only reason I am sure you have not yet is that he has declined. Please keep working away at him, I would love to hear his stories. Also, I know Abbotsford has had a really hard season, but I would love to hear from Manny. To hear his thoughts on the season, and how he is doing in his second season behind the bench. I try to listen to Abbotsford games on Mixlr, but haven't heard too much from the coach there either. I really appreciate the work you are doing, and while I tune in to segments from other media – sometimes they are just so negative or have such unreal takes on things I can only take them in limited doses. Its pretty rare to hear them actually appreciate the long road the organization has to travel, or to consider they are talking about people with families or who have more in their lives than just hockey going on. Keep up the good work.
