Someone along the lines of Winston will do just fine if they build the rest of the team properly. They just have to make the playoffs and end the drought. No one is asking for a playoff win or a home game, but at the very least, the drought has to end

This is a bad take. Releasing Fields will put the Jets in well over $50 in dead cap including Rodgers dead cap hit and will create only $1 million in saving. It’s cheaper to keep him for one year. Releasing him is not a good option. The Jets also had two QBs get injured over the course of the year which was why they were down to their third QB. They need the insurance as well.
