A 2nd Year QB puts up 16 points in the Divisional Round to secure his first playoff victory?
Tom Brady did it in the Snow Bowl/Tuck Rule Game…
Drake Maye did it yesterday….
Deja Vu
Two words: pass protection
This game was not pretty, but the experience of watching the thing was really very reminiscent of the playoff games during their first run of 3 Super Bowls. Those games were so often just ugly games where the team looked a lot worse than it did during the season, where there would be some kind of significant coaching mistakes made by the other team that had people going back and forth between making fun of them and questioning if the Patriots could have won without the mistakes, where the game just had this odd feeling where the game was within a single score or just over most of the time and was anyone’s game but also somehow felt like the Patriots were in substantial control of it.
It is a very distincnt sort of experience to most of the playoff games from the second half of the dynasty which were sometimes just as close but just felt different. That one reminded me of 2003 or 2004.
I want the Steelers next and I can’t decide who in the AFC CG. The Bills would be a home game and Denver on the road but I am kind of tired of the Bills this season and Denver may be the better matchup. What do you guys think?
Big up the crowd, particularly the folks behind the Pats bench and around me. Loud, rambunctious, super hyped the whole game. Defense fed off it all night. Well done crew!
Great win. Watching Herbert yesterday, he must be the most overrated QB in the league. Felt like he was causing most of the pressure holding onto the ball and when he had clean pockets all night but would always start scrambling early and cause himself to get sacked.
Drake Maye made some bad decisions last night that lead to 2 fumbles. He missed the TD to Hooper. The INT I won’t put entirely on him. It wasn’t the most pretty game but he made the plays he needed to make and the DEF stepped up big. For a 2nd year QB in their first playoff game it was a solid game.
Hopefully that got the nerves out and we come out swinging next game. I don’t think 16 will beat many of these teams left.
Lisan al-Mayeib will lead us to the Super Bowl.
Defense stepped up, hope they stay stout for three more games.
We’re lucky to have a resilient QB. Rough first half but he didn’t let his mistakes get to him.
The D last night was really encouraging. I’ve been far more concerned about them potentially being a paper tiger than our offense, but they were smothering last night.
I would rather face the Texans. The steelers have an offense that works in a slug fest. Shroud is not the same QB. If you all out him, he looks bad like in that chiefs game. I think we can win a low scoring game at home against them, if its cold enough.
It’s great to have football in January again.
