The Kevin Durant Trade Was NOT Supposed to Go Like This

The Houston Rockets traded for Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns right at the end of the NBA Finals this summer in a move to try and compete for a championship. Instead, the Rockets are playing bad basketball over the last month and a half while the Suns are thriving with Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks at the helm and have overtaken them in the West standings. It’s a crazy twist on the trade that nobody was likely expecting.

  1. People hate Brooks, but the guy brings heart to all the teams he’s been on when you look at when he was in Memphis. He embodied that culture of what it meant to be a grizzly scrap and tough. He leaves the grizzlies have not been the same in the past 2 1/2 years he goes to the Rockets and he did the same thing and now he’s on the Suns and he’s doing the exact same thing. He’s going to stand 10 toes down for you.

  2. Been saying this for years, Kevin Durant is overrated. He looks good because the situations he was in that he benefited from. I knew the Rockets were going to regret getting him and giving it away their defensive identity

  3. Im a suns fan and I have the unpopular opinion of, let’s trade Booker while his value is high. The hawks waited too long to trade Trae young and it bit the in the butt. I don’t want to hold on to Booker until he has no trade value. The suns are a 40 win team for the next 5 years, we have no picks to get better. No point it keeping Booker for that

  4. Been saying it for years, KD does not make teams better. Unless they are already great, he just doesn’t have the stuff to lead a team and a locker room. All he wants to do is go out there, not break a sweat, hit some middies, and go home. He isn’t all in. Surprised more people don’t get this. Kevin Durant is empty stats. The only teams he can help are already on their way to the late rounds of the playoffs. He doesn’t want, or have the stuff, to lead the charge himself.

And it’s no coincidence that everywhere he goes the team turns toxic and everyone ends up shipped out soon after.

Once again the team he is on would be better off if they just traded him for role players and some picks. Surprise surprise.

  5. I think the only team that has not found success post KD is the nets which isn’t saying much because they don’t know what success looked like before KD also. He’s not a difference maker if anything his reputation for as good as he is has stayed the same jump on the bandwagon every time things goes bad on his previous team.

  6. This was completely predictable. The Suns NEVER needed KD and delayed the growth of Booker. Mat Ishbia is an idiot and knows nothing of team composition. KD is probably his favorite player.

  7. I mean, it should be very clear by this point that you can't trust KD to 'build' a culture anywhere. He can PARTICIPATE in a culture that's already been built (GS, Houston's defense), but if you expect him to meaningfully improve the way basketball works for a team you're going to be disappointed (Houston's offense, the Nets, the Suns …… you could even argue the Thunder, he basically just handed the car keys to Westbrook, and that limited them). He wants power and wants everything to work like perfectly ….. and doesn't actually want any of the responsibility of any of that.

  8. I never thought I’d say this.. but I’d gladly trade for dillion brooks to the spurs. Not just for what he brings on the court, but off it as well.

Fair play, a proper 180 on his PR compared to last season

  9. Still a bit early to judge that trade but the Suns were in such despair at the end of last season that an above average turn around seems more spectacular than it actually is, but it's still very good.

  10. Suns won the trade , in the off season Yall swore you won …..yall only won the off season hype award !!! suns fan here ………………p.s. yall lost the trade. ..from Dillon and Jalen

  11. As a Houstonian I appreciate being able to see a ATG play towards the end but they weren’t ready for eachother, Houston was a few years away and Durant doesn’t have that time nor is he a #1 leader type player.

  12. Everyone underestimated the Suns, except of us Suns Fans 😊 The decisions in the summer were elite. I am looking forward to seeing the further development. Suns up!

  13. Kevin Durant is 37 and hasn't made it past the 2nd round in the last five years. It was highly unlikely from the start that he'd make miracles happen for the Rockets.

  14. 3:56 Ah, the classic NBA and NFL type of stat. "NBA History", while setting up conditions for the stat that effectively limits it to just teams in the last decade, and even that is a stretch. Even in 2016-2017, only 6 teams averaged over 30 3PA per game. And only 1 team attempted 34 or more threes a game (the Rockets at 40.3).

175 min threes attempted over 5 games is 35+ threes attempted per game over that 5 game stretch. If a team is shooting really badly from 3, they are unlikely to shoot significantly more threes per game for 5 games, so it is unlikely for any team that year to shoot 175+ threes over 5 games while also shooting badly, except for the Rockets. This effectively limits the stat to just teams in the last few years…

  15. Kd hate chat here. Watching the games how is any of this kd fault ? It’s kd fault that Jabari and his team is shooting 23 percent from 3? It’s kd fault that ime has no offensive schemes ? It’s kd fault that he goes to the bench and they lose a 13 pt lead to the blazers ? I mean yall make it make sense what is kd fault here ? Yall want the man to be Superman ? But when curry loses games and have been in the playin the last 3 years nobody blames curry😂😂😂😂

  16. Dillon Brooks has been amazing, but honestly Mark Williams being healthy ALL year has been HUGE for us.
I have no idea how Green is going to fit with us, but I will also say Ott has been a fantastic coach so far.

  17. And I’ll continue asking again. WHAT HAVE THE ROCKETS DONE TO BE CONSIDERED IN SUCH HIGH REGARDS? Them being a “top 4 contender” was and is stupid af.

  18. A freat season for the Suns is usually having them as the top 5 team on offense. But having the Suns in the top 5 on defense is a whole new thing to witness for me being a long time Suns fan.
