[Lewenberg] The Toronto Raptors have shown “exploratory interest” in Anthony Davis with their trade package likely being built around RJ Barrett, Jakob Poeltl, and two or three first-round draft picks.

  4. I want no part of that Poeltl contract. 4 more years after this one, the last 3 are over $25m. In the 2nd apron world, that will be tough.

  6. The Poeltl contract is fucking gross! I hope he’s taking good care of his agent. I don’t even know if it’s worth taking on for 2 maybe 3 first round picks in the 20s. Plus he’s starting to have back issues

    I hope this deal is real because I do think I prefer the ATL deal provided the Toronto offer causes ATL to include both Zacch and that Cleveland pick in it.

    Draft: Flemings

    I would then go completely into tank mode and try to draft Flemings. Flemings will be a superstar in this league and would be the perfect co-star alongside Flagg. Flemings can play both PG and SG. If necessary, we’ll use Toronto’s picks and trade up, because Flemings is, besides Peterson, the best guard in the draft!

    I would also try to trade PJ in the summer. Ideally for a top 15 pick in the draft. We need to get younger and build up draft capital!

  16. Mavericks should be in the business of taking on bad contracts if quality compensation comes with it. Poeltls contract is bad. Last year isn’t guaranteed. This year doesn’t matter. He would help the tank this season, and if he can return to health, he has actually been good for Raptors in the past. If it boosts the AD compensation enough (1 or 2 1sts and maybe some swaps) I think it’s worth it.

    This is a rebuilding team. They can eat a bad year or two of a contract if he doesn’t get healthy. Then you have a expiring to trade. This team needs to use all methods possible to build up assets that fit Cooper’s timeline.

    Things change fast. A raptors team built around AD could absolutely lead to some quality picks in the next few years.

  17. RJ on an expiring $29M next season is a decent little piece. That Poeltl contract is pretty devastating through 2029-2030 so the first round pick haul would need to be juicy. I would take this deal over any garbage the Hawks are offering.

  20. Draft picks matter more than cap space as we build around Cooper for the next few seasons, and I’d be shocked if a team offered more than 3 1sts, so this is sounding good to me

  25. That guy is actually wrong. RJ and Poeltl wouldn’t work salary wise. Raptors would still have to clear almost $7 million more.

    Playing around with mock trades, it’s actually difficult to put a trade together.

RJ Barrett is a good player but I dunno about a scorer who can’t really shoot the 3 next to Coop long term and unless AD drags the team down it’s not like those picks are going to be that valuable. I might just prefer an Atlanta deal even without draft capital at that point because Porzingis would fit well

  27. The only thing that matters is a lottery pick in this next draft that’s loaded at the top. Non-lottery picks don’t have great return. 3 picks by no means equals 3 solid players.

    If we can’t get a lottery pick for next year I’d assume just tank this year and then run it the year after with what we have. Coop’s timeline is sooner than yall think.
