Defense played a game that would’ve won every other playoff team the game. Offense wasn’t up to Snuff all year. We need coaches who can do more with less and roman continues to prove he does less with more. Monken is available and would come with a solid recommendation from John. I think pairing herbert with linderbaum ans monken is the best chance for the team.
Make or break offseason for the front office and Harbaugh. We need to get better on offense. We are most likely going to lose Minter so who do we replace him with and can they keep up a stellar defense?
Derwin’s the only one that would call out coaching staff imo. Justin won’t do it.
Derwin needs to go straight to John Spanos and tell him Roman needs to be fired. Telling Jim or Hortiz won’t do anything since they’re all drinking buddies with Greg Roman.
The call to fire Roman needs to come from the very top.
Yeah people are going after Herbert but man he’s a warrior. Broken hand never missed a start, worst o line ever and he still found ways to win big games down the stretch.
That game was basically going the same way a lot of games we won this year went. We just didn’t get the one or 2 super human drives for TDs like we normally do. Usually the games were close around half time. Herbert would put together a masterclass drive to give us a lead and then the defense would finish it. The difference is probably two missed throws, but at the same time having to be absolutely perfect just to score a TD isn’t conducive for success.
The only thing I want to mention about Roman is it did seem he was willing to change. The first game of the year we threw 70 l% of the time and looked pretty damn good. I don’t think Roman was somehow stuck in his old ways. It just felt like the line was so bad you can’t really scheme out of it. Hopper made a pretty good point about this last week before the game.
I’m not really a fan of Roman’s concepts but he did try to change and then every competent person on the line got hurt. There was a good comparison to McVays offense with Stafford and how much it regressed after injuries to the line in 2021. The mere fact we made the playoffs is nothing short of a minor miracle and says a lot about Harbaugh and his staff.
> I think some of the criticisms are fair. Some poor play-calling sequencing, particularly in the red zone. Some head-scratching moments in terms of route spacing. But, to me, what he’s been able to do in terms of keeping the offense afloat amid the OL situation outweighs any of the flaws. He deserves a ton of credit for patching this thing together. As I wrote today on The Athletic, the Rams went through similar OL issues in 2022 before Stafford got hurt. First nine weeks of the season, they were 29th in EPA per play. They started 3-5 and finished 5-12. The whole operation bottomed out, and that was with one of the best play-callers and schemers in football in Sean McVay. It’s damn near impossible to overcome this level of OL injuries, and Roman has managed to put together a number of winning game plans (MIA and PIT are two good examples).
> In reality, the offense was supposed to be something closer to W1 in Brazil. Even better if Rashawn hadn’t gotten injured. They’ve used 25 OL combinations over the course of the season, and they’ve had to adjust pretty much weekly. That’s without even mentioning Herbert’s hand injury. If Slater, Alt and Hampton all stayed healthy, I think this had a chance to be a top-5 offense. That was not the hand the Chargers were dealt.
> I think Roman is very respected internally bc of how he’s handled this season. I do not think his job is in jeopardy.
> As far as the Pats, I think the Chargers will be able to run it effectively against this defensive front.
Hopper from his AMA
Harbaugh has been detrimental to Herbert’s career
And if anything Derwin undersells it, because the guys are coming from the left, the right, and, most of all, the middle.
“And by “we” I mean our shitty ass O line.”
Good for James to be self-critical, that will make him better… but Herbert had an off-night; he was not on his best!!
Yeah feel bad for Herbert, but I feel bad more so for this defense and most of all Derwin. Played great and have kept them afloat all year long. Offense has just let them down time and time again
Maybe Derwin should put on 80 pounds & play center
Herbert needs to start saying shit. He can’t keep being okay with the neglect shown by the FO/coaching staff. He’s a franchise qb. He needs to speak up and force the organizations hand.
The defense never had to go through any of the tribulations the offense has. Other than a short stint for Mack the defensive side of the ball stayed relatively healthy for nearly the whole season, which surely makes Minters job a hell of a lot easier. Throw in the brilliant trade for Oweh and they got better. I’m thrilled for the off-season. Another draft, the second most cap space in the NFL, free agency and simply more continuity in the building. Futures bright for 2026.
Tears in my eyes.
I love Derwin, such an all around team leader.
They need to move mountains and reshape that line this offseason. And a new oline coach. And a new offensive coordinator. Anything short of that and I start questioning both Harbaugh and Hortiz.
Derwin is a goddamned national treasure. His face should be on money.
two 11-6 record seasons, Harbaugh is going no where.
Maybe it’s just me, but in between every sentence I felt a subconscious ‘Roman gotta go’. Except for the occasional ‘our OLine is garbage’. There was definitely some, err… ‘subtext’ going on.
Now we get to hear low IQ analysts like Nick Wrong bash Herbert all offseason, except for the fact that his boy Mahomes wouldn’t have even made the playoffs with this same OLine.
I’m sick for Herbert. Some guys just have so much more fortune than others.
Dang i feel bad for Justin even more but thank god he has teammates like Derwin.
Sorry but Herbert has to be the most over rated QB ever
GRO broke Justin Herbert
You held them to 16 DJ…. what do you mean we need to be better? You suiting up at WR? Your side of the ball has done their job damn near every week for the past 2 years. You’re not gonna say THEY NEED TO BE BETTER obvious but that is absolutely the case here.
Gotta get the protection in.
I’m almost wondering if we need a deep dive and focus on the training and health staff? Or would that not have made a difference this year?
FIRE ROMAN
By “we,” he really meant the oline and Roman
100% he did his best. Defense was Amazing 7 Quarters no touchdowns last 2 games
Professional speak cracks me up because we’re all sitting here thinking what the fuck do you mean “we”. Roman and the o line need to be collecting unemployment starting today.

Find yourself someone like Derwin
