Why a TV deal may be at least partly to blame for slow SF Giants offseason

  1. As long as Curran Theatre is batting cleanup, there is no reason why we can’t win it all. Even year.

  2. This is idle speculation and doesn’t do enough to explain the contrast in offseasons between 2025 and 2026. I appreciate that this could be a factor, there’s just no way cord-cutting would diminish NBC revenue enough in a single season to match the diminished offseason spending. We had better have more starting pitchers incoming or we’re in trouble.

Edit: On that last point why aren’t we hearing anything about Verlander? He sold his house in Virginia so he’s clearly planning ahead but… crickets? Dude was one of the best pitchers in baseball in the second half. Get him back. Now.

  3. Teams are prepping for a strike. It’s fairly obvious. While some are spending others, most notably NYY, NYM and Boston are not. Giants fall into that group.
