Bucs fans should love this one. Monken is the anti Grizzard. His offense is based on explosiveness and chunk plays – not being afraid to take shots and put pressure on the defense. He also likes route trees that create space for guys with speed and acceleration to let them try to make a play.
The criticism of his offense has always been he’s quick to abandon the run and doesn’t always know when to let his foot off the gas to manage a game.
To be honest not sure I want Monken he’s the same age as Todd so there’s no upside to him taking over. Also he couldn’t get it done with a 2x mvp and Derrick Henry and John harbaugh with him. What makes anyone think that it would work here??
This would be the ideal hire. If Bowles struggles again but the offense shows promise it’d be a no brainer to fire Bowles and promote Monken to head coach.
I’m not as high on Monken as I used to be. While I agree he’d be better than Grizzard, his tendency to neglect the run game means that a major aspect of our offense might not be utilised, and other than Coen’s year we’ve struggled to get the most of our RBs. I honestly imagine our offense looking similar to 2022-2023, which was frustrating to say the least. I’d love to be proven wrong tho.
Guess it’s a tank season. Bowles is making sure to select someone that wouldn’t affect his coaching position.
