I think expansion will be driven on population shift, so the new teams will be in the Southern part of the U.S. or Sun Belt. I could see some states getting a team that already have a team. Like Savanna, Orlando, San Antonio. Even a new market in New Mexico. I just can't see Oakland getting a team again. But, who knows?
I'm saving this video so I can come back in ten years to grade you Brodie. I just hope I'll be alive then.
I remember I did not like the idea of a clock but grew to like it. Baseball will still be baseball.
I hope we are alive and well by then. Expansion two things. One, if you are a Braves fan your classic rivals are gone.
Secondly, until the Rays, Marlins, and A's are right as rain and teams spend, I don't see Expansion
I have no problem with any of Brodie's speculations, except where he says MLB may not exist if the current salary structure continues. That is activism, not journalism. It's not a serious statement at all, just hyperbolic fear-mongering.
I don't believe that parity is a salary cap issue. The other leagues have and they regularly get repeat champions. A cap isn't going to fix things. Teams will just need to figure out how to keep their players happy.
Baseball lost me years ago,but man, it's still in my peripheral.
The Blue Jays won.
Greedy owners, greedy players union, and the baseball purists crying with the new rules…we will be lucky to have baseball in 2036…
The two leagues are already two conferences. Just go with four divisions in each league. I don't think we need to go to a 'guaranteed' East vs. West World Series. We need to have the best two teams playing in the World Series.
I disagree with the ABS on every pitch because the new umpires who come through are used to having the extra scrunity that comes with having to get it right and the quality of the new umps coming through will make this a non-issue.
I still think that MLB needs to pay Angel Hernandez whatever he wants to come out of retirement and have him call opening day in Philadelphia this season and allow BOTH teams unlimited challenges…..
I'd watch that game!
Orlando and Oakland ain't gonna happen with the Rays and Giants in place. I would like for you to have discussed the 800lb stadium gorilla in the room. New stadium costs are already in the stratosphere. How are these new markets going to pay for these facilities in the future when even now markets like Nashville are saying "No" to public financing and voters in places like metro KC are dead set in opposition.
As far as 2 way platers are concerned, Nolan McClean tried when the Mets first drafted him to be 2 way and it seemed like his hitting was getting in the way of his pitching development and vice versa. Once he gave up on hitting and focused solely on pitching he got so much better and became what we see today. I think it's incredibly improbable that we see anyone else do what Ohtani does, hence the Unicorn nickname.
Two divisions each league; four is ridiculous, three is still silly, two is just right!
A side cast that you can watch and the announcer actually know about you team would be great
Baseball has already lost the mantle of “National Pastime “. It will become more of a niche sport over the next 10 years. The loss of local tv money will drive contraction.
I predict that expansion (more union jobs) and a salary floor will be the price owners will have to pay for a salary cap.
Waiting for April and all the videos that talk about how poor attendance has been so far.
While I think that (when MLB is at 32 teams) it makes sense to have 8 divisions of 4 teams, what will they do in hypothetical 2038 if they add 2 teams? How will that work?
The days of the long time broadcaster on Radio are about over. Denny Mathews has been doing Royals games since 1969. Uecker was in Milwaukee from 1971 to 2024 The long term annoucers are dinosaurs, And many of them can't paint word pictures on radio. I see Radio broadcasts becoming the audio only of the TV.
Baseball should have radically realigned years ago. Straight geography. Can you imagine. Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and Phillies in the same division?
“ Oakland Rays “ 🩵 ⚾️🇺🇸
I have been with Directv for about 25 years and I love it. I get the MLB package so I can watch whatever game I want whenever I want. Except it drives me up the wall when they have a Friday night game here on some streaming service or some other game on another streaming service. I don’t care if they have the streaming services in addition, but I hate it that they take it away from me. I don’t do streaming services. I’ve watched people using streaming services before, and when you try to rewind the little circle goes around and around and then it starts playing again but it’s just really awkward and clumsy. I record games on my DVR and very rarely watch live because I don’t have time to watch commercials. I can forward between innings and even press the forward 30 second button after a foul ball. I can also if there is a close play, I can rewind easily and go frame by frame to see if the runner is really safe or out. Can you do that on streaming services too? I’m not asking sarcastically I really don’t know but my experience of watching people doing streaming services is that it probably is not possible. I guess I am one of those grumpy old people that says everything is working so well and then people have to ruin it.
LeBron will still be in the NBA
Odd number of teams in MLB can't work because you'd have to have one team be idle every day.
And for a 32 team alignment with 8 divisions of 4, the schedule breakdown could be:
14 games against division opponents (14 x 3 = 42 games)
6 games against the remaining 12 teams in your league (6 x 12 = 72 games)
3 games against 16 interleague teams (3 x 16 = 48 games)
All equals 162 games
I suspect that MLB will become some modified form of home run derby in the future. A pitcher protected by a BP screen and three fielders. Home runs only. Boring as hell.
If I ever be alive by 2036.
When you're young and dumb you root for a team and have the luxury of being ignorant of the economics of a pro sport. As a mature adult with a family, you have the financial view of being a pro sport fan. Pro sports is an entertainment industry, but like all entertainment, the greed of the entertainers and the organizations (owners/media) that provide it will make being a fan untenable.
Until there’s a salary cap and a salary floor and a difference of no more than two times, I’m checked out as my pirates and Brewers have no chance. I’ll watch College Softball and I’ll watch my Little League baseball for the love of the game. I have no interest in watching New York teams and Los Angeles teams win every year. Parity like in the NFL makes the league more enjoyable and more competitive.
That would be interesting

What they need to do with streaming options is go dynamic reaching out to everyone, Not everyone wants or can budget a full monthly subscription. Options and understand getting say $10 random for less is better than getting $0 from that person. Sell it like a box office. All option like you listed but also single game tickets. You can say I want to see that game next week. So you buy the ticket for that dame. Or I am bored I want to watch a game now. The ticket is nominal but more than what a monthly plan would cost per game. Hey go crazy. Ticket is $2 but if the team wins the is a $1 victory surcharge.
