Saw this on r/hockey, good words from Marty St. Louis that might apply to someone here…

  1. Probably why some players did well individually under Bruce (there it is!) Boudreau. I just don’t think we have the same kind of horses MTL has though.

  2. Story of Petey’s career since Boudreau left.

This management wanted him to play “harder” and used Miller to “toughen” him up. Even Richardson told him to back off or they’ll lose him. And they did.

They broke him. They lost him. And now we need to rebuild him.

EP40 was one of the top young centers coming into this league with untapped creativity and offensive potential. I hope having someone like McKenna or Stenberg on his wing will remind him of who he was-the Calder winner.

  3. Our next coach needs to bring the vibes for sure. Last three years have been turgid. I don’t understand how the first few months of Tocchet hockey was so good and then so shit overnight.

  4. I’m sick of this narrative that Adam Foote isn’t a fantastic NHL coach. Just like his track record in raising children.. wait what’s that? Oh, yikes, really? Oh well still his track record of coaching Junior… oh? That short? And the Rockets had WHAT as a record? Dang. Okay well still as an Assistant Coach with Colorado he must have… wow they missed the playoffs how many times? Jesus.

Why didn’t we go with Manny again?

  5. Yes I’ve thought this all along with Tochett’s rigid system, which is also more or less Foote’s.

I don’t have any faith or hope in this org to ever get it right or get a decent coach to want to coach here, unless we get new owners.

Canadiens are a golden standard for how an org should be run imo. I’m so fucking jealous

  6. Its quite possible that with the pure offensive type guys, trying to make them 2 way players and always be in position.. they lose some creativity and are less willing to be creative and use skill with fear getting out of position or benched or scratched. Definitely could be part of the reason we see our team be boring not creative not fast not scoring goals. Im sure theres a fine line between too defensive too structure and too lose to free!. Gotta find that balance and allow the creative guys to use their skill

  7. I really hope your not referring to a certain 11.6 player… The organization from coaches to GMs and president were calling out his practice habbits, his lack of offseason commitment and his overall commitment to being a professional,  he was missing some very important non negotiable boxes( not saying he hasn’t figured it out this year it seems to be the case).  I’d say this fits more to a guy like ratty who was leading the team at 5 on 5 scoring with an elite faceoff % when he was benched, meanwhile guys like boeser and debrusk have taken weeks off

  8. We also essentially built an offensive team that Greene tried to turn defensive his last year and it failed. Boudreau goes back to offense and it works but there are too many defensive issues partially due to personnel.

Tocchet cones in defensive minded coach and the stars get worse over time and same for Foote. This team was never designed to be a bang and crash type team that outworks the opponent it was built to be a skilled cycle team that works the perimeter and drives the net for chances. Management essentially enabled a complete stylistic change without having the players to do it.

  9. this post makes no sense

it makes no sense people here are jumping on the blame the coach and management bandwagon for ep40’s suckage

it makes no sense to blame coaching and management, when other players like quinn hughes were thriving and routinely logging thirty minutes of ice time every game

it makes no sense, when hughes was reportedly frustrated with the lack of commitment ep40 had apparently shown.

it makes no sense, when this apparent a lack of commitment by ep40 apparently wasn’t lost on JT miller as well, when he was still with the team!

    get real
