How concerned should we be with this? This would be the second consecutive year where Bub has the worst +/- stat in the league. Not that it's an end all stat, but this is silly.

He is ahead by a significant margin at that with less games than the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place players. Don't we have a high scoring bench? How can it be this bad?

  1. This stat is almost always a key bench player on the worst team in the league

Most of his minutes have come in the second quarter and the gap between our bench and others results in a terrible point differential more often than not

  2. I like Bub but honestly I see him as the piece of the young core that get traded to a team that needs a young guard. Someone like GS.

  3. Don’t we have a high scoring bench? Not really? Our bench is full of hustlers and development guys who Bub normally closes games with.

The important part with Bub is that he’s passing the eye test when he’s playing with Tre, Sarr, previously CJ, Bilal and Ky. He’s clearly getting better at learning to be a point guard which Wall himself gave props to Bub that it’s the hardest position to learn.

  4. He is 20 year old on nearly the worst team in the league trying to learn the PG position on the fly. I wouldn’t be overly concerned if your expectations is that he is a bench combo guard. If you are pinning your hopes on him being the starting PG of the future, sure go ahead and panic.

To me, he has at least shown real growth this year in at least his 3 point shooting, which thankfully is one of the more important skills in the modern NBA.

  5. I wonder what’s it’s been, per game, over the last 5 weeks. The first month and a half of the season was absolutely ATROCIOUS for Bub, but he’s been much better from the middle of December on.

  6. Bub has a long way to go with development. He may never pan out, but I think he’s got a backup spot on a competitive team in his future. I do not think for one minute this stat is telling a story.

His 3pt shooting on a good bench in the league means he would have a totally different plus minus elsewhere.

  7. We can’t really rely on these kinds of stats at this point in the tank. Our team is awful, so it’s unsurprising that individual players’ stats reflect that.

Tbh I’m low on Bub but the focus needs to be on his development and stats are only helpful insofar as they give us insight into this particular skills. Personally, I think he needs to be a secondary creator even as a guard, not a ball dominant PG. So I look for stuff related to that, like his catch-and-shoot, quickness and explosiveness, and defensive IQ.

If that’s developing year over year, he’s doing alright.

  8. By far the most minutes on one of the worst teams in the league, and he is nearly always playing with our 2nd and 3rd string guys.

For example, Russ and DeMar DeRozan are on this list, and are both very good players.

  9. No. He is top 5 3pt% amongst players with more than 1000 minites. He is on the court with Tristan at center.

  10. I mean, is that good sign? No. Its that a definitive sign? No. Time will tell all my friends. Dont fret.
