Pearson and Toffoli were both such a positive and consistent presence. Pearson (in my opinion) was pretty underrated, always putting up points and not bad defensively while Toffoli was short-lived but made a huge impact in our top 6 while Boeser was out.

Letting Toffoli go was a huge mistake. Didn’t care too much about Pearson.

I remember Ray Ferraro when the Tanner Pearson extension was announced.
Canucks were eliminated. Pretty simple transaction at the deadline, you trade expiring contracts he would have brought in a 3rd and a 4th rounder or maybe a conditional 2nd.
Then Benning gave him a 3 year extension for NO REASON with a NTC and we still had to negotiate the Hughes and Pettersson deals that offseason with little cap space. Like dude you spent the past 6 months crying on various radio appearances about cap space for Hughes and Pettersson and you prioritize Tanner pearson???????
Ferraro was on the radio when the extension was announced, and the hosts along with Ray were speechless, just flabbergasted. As Benning had been interviewed like a week earlier saying they had to be frugal going forward to be sure they had the cap space.

Toffoli and Tanev walking in the 2020 offseason was detrimental to our team. That said, the moves that killed this core’s contending window was those bad contracts Benning handed out like candy from the 2016-2019 offseasons. Most notably: Beagle, Roussel and Eriksson.

If we legitimately just ran it back with the exact same roster that 2020 off season we might be looking at a very different team today. We basically let go of positive assets for nothing an signed/traded for a bunch of negative ones.

My unpopular opinion is Toffoli kinda sucked as a Canuck.
Got injured for a stretch and couldn’t build chemistry but I was ok letting him walk. Also Tyler Madden wasn’t heard from again either so it’s not like the rental hurt us.
He immediately made us pay by playing like prime Ovie against us in the bubble, but his time as a Canuck is overstated.
Pearson? He was a huge scapegoat during his time here. Took a ton of criticism.
