Breaking: Guy who hasn’t even been a position coach in the NFL shuts down out of left field hypothetical of taking a National Football League Offensive Coordinator role not offered to him
Alex speaking the truth chiefs fans need to hear. It’s andy’s offense and the coordinator only has so much input.
FWIW I agree with him about Kafka. Best of both worlds…a guy Andy is comfortable with, who was a whiz-bang pass play designer and has ALSO had years of exposure to another system and a different coaching philosophy.
I know Reid has always been one to bring on friends and familiar faces, but now of all times seems like the best time for some fresh faces to come in
In what world would this have ever even happened even if he wanted to? Maybe as a QB or lower level coach if he had shown interest, but I would’ve been mad if they brought in a dude with zero coaching experience to be our OC
WHO IS KAFKA? TELL ME!
Would love to have Alex back with the organization in some capacity, but would prefer someone who has already coached for sure.
What’s Kay Adams for exactly these days? Coz I’m not sure I have any use for this personally.
As long as Andy is HC, we should just expect him to keep going back to the well. Let’s not bring in a fresh look, just the same people who were with him in the past
I wish it was EB but I get why not
Can we just stop with the familiar faces?
I know it would never happen but it would sure make me happy. Hopefully AS11 gets bored after the kids move out and becomes our QB coach
Alex just said exactly what I have been telling anyone that wants Matt Nagy fired. This is Andy’s offense the OC has little to no control over the scheme and play calling. I’m sure the OC is responsible for making sure players know the game plan and plays and are up to speed on the new installs that happen week to week. Now I believe Nagy is a weak coach and I think it shows with how often guys have been out of position and the lack of focus (see all the stupid penalties). This team needs an OC that is detail oriented and a coach that is willing and able to chew some ass when it’s needed kind of like EB was. But the Chiefs OC is just an OC in name basically..
Not a fan of Kafka coming in. He is probably a fine coach but we don’t need anymore of Andy’s disciples making the echo chamber worse. We need some NEW BLOOD!
It’s gonna be EB, I wish it wasn’t
I would love to bring him in as a QB coach, but that’s about it
Andy is going to run the offense no matter who they bring in. So I don’t think McDaniels or Cliff are signing up for that. If Kafka can come in and be more than a yes man and bring in new wrinkles and fresh ideas like when we had Doug or Childress in the room with him, then I think we will be in a good spot.
“I hope he finds another job”
Some very interesting language from Smith there…
Then in response to questioning on whether he thinks it’s possible Nagy returns – “I’m hearing no.”
This kind of validates that this is another Eric Bieniemy situation. Nagy has been told by the Chiefs they are moving on. They let his contract expire and out some positive PR spin about him seeking other opportunities, to help preserve his reputation. But the Chiefs made the decision to move on, and they almost certainly have a replacement in mind.
It’s almost certainly Kafka. Some of the other names being thrown around, like McDaniel and Kliff weren’t known to be available at the time they made the call on Nagy – that Kafka almost certainly would be was.
Like Alex says, it’s very unlikely Andy looks at complete outsider. It’s his offensive system, and it’s a much taller task to blend different systems together than some fans think. Andy’s also kind of a control freak. Kafka at least has a nice blend of having come up in Andy’s system but also having worked outside of it.
