Will Sammon of The Athletic reports today that the Mets are in the range of offering him $120MM to $140MM on a three-year deal. Sammon says Tucker could make his decision as soon as this week
FWIW Currently, we have 2 contracts on the books for the 2029 season (soto and lindor)

If the Mets make this happen I’ll be amazed. I don’t see how he takes 3 years when Bregman just got 5.
The real question is can Tucker play a passable center field, just in case Benge isn’t ready? Tyrone Taylor is a dawg but I don’t trust his hitting for more than a 4th outfielder role.
if the goal is to blow him away in the short term, it has to really blow him away. i’d imagine 140 for the 3 years MIGHT do that.
I’m surprised that it looks like Tucker has to go this route. The QO even impacts the market for big stars.
I’m concerned that Benge won’t stick in CF, but we could deal with that problem if/when it happens.
Kyle Tucker is at the head of a rather lackluster free agent class. If you are not in love with him you don’t break the bank on him
Doubt he signs for just three years, even with that high AAV
I love this!
Idc how high the AAV is if it’s three years…
If they really *really* want Tucker then I think you gotta give him the years. Otherwise I don’t see why he wouldn’t just take this to the Dodgers like Diaz did and go “match that” (which they probably would). Unless of course he doesn’t want to play for the best team because he doesn’t like LA or something
I don’t think Tucker will take a 3 yr deal with us when he will have (if he doesn’t already have) a 5 yr offer from the Jays. Even at a lower AAV he’d be leaving 30-40M on the table. And his older peers are all signing 5 yr deals
I think a 3 year deal at his age is better than 5. after 3 years he’s still only 31/32 and can get a bregman deal. with a 5 year deal he’s back on the market technically past his prime so it would be more difficult to get a good deal
May as well already welcome him to the Dodgers
He’s not taking a 3 yr lol
That’s it?
Gonna need to go up if we want to land him
And I don’t really see the path to being a top tier team this year if we don’t
Give him 5 years with opt out after 2 years.
I’d expect the Mets are the best offer here. This sounds like Tuckers agents leaking trying to get more money or a more advantageous structure bid up from the Dodgers or Jays, either to get the Mets higher or because he wants those other teams but the Mets offer is so much better than them he couldn’t justify not taking it if bidding ended today
Left say the Mets somehow get Tucker, who’s playing RF? Soto or him
This isnt enough especially if w are bidding against the most recent world series teams
It seems low but they wouldn’t have offered it if Tucker’s camp wasn’t interested. Other teams with money may be balking at the qualifying offer. Tucker maybe just wants a year to prove himself and get the longer contract next year without a QO
I would take Tucker over Belli in a hearbeat but no way he signs anything less than a 5 year deal
50 mill AAV was offered
I’m wondering who benefits from leaking this and it’s probably Tucker’s camp.
Mets offer is probably close to this, let’s say it is actually the high end of 140 mil (46ish AAV)
My guess would be Dodgers are 3 years (maybe 4) but trying to keep it below 40 AAV with significant deferrals and Blue Jays at 5/6 years closer to 35 AAV. So Tucker’s camp leaking this puts pressure on the other 2 to come up in AAV.
If you’re Tucker and the offers hold (46 for Mets, 38 for LA, 35 for Toronto) I feel like you gotta take the Mets offer and roll the dice on yourself. It’s the best opportunity to maximize your career earnings. If he doesn’t get critically injured or pull a Jason Bay, he reenters the market at age 32 and probably sets himself up for an Alonso/Schwarber contract which would set him up to make 300 million over the 8 years from 2026 to 2034.
Getting Tucker on a 3-4 year deal would be a masterclass. I don’t really care what the aav would look like. Getting a top 15 player in his prime years without making it an albatross deal is worth the price.
Interesting play. Almost feels like the Mets want the opt out as much as Tucker. I think Stearns wants to see what he has in Benge or Jett, but he’s feeling pressure from the impatient fans so he sees this is a potential win win.
You give Tucker the Bregman deal with an opt out. If he has a great year and opts out (most likely outcome IMO) the Mets will have a better understanding of Benge/Jett given that they will probably be seeing time in CF this year at the MLB level. If you don’t like what you see you can then pursue Tucker for a longer term deal.
They only lose in this situation is if Tucker falls off a cliff somehow and you’re stuck with an hobbled bad hitter blocking your best outfield prospects. That seems unlikely.
why didnt we offer that to alonso?
He will have a good year then opt out and sign with the Orioles
Don’t want to be that guy but I can’t see the guy who wanted $300-$400m at the start of free agency settling for $150m.
Felt like he was looking for his long term deal, not a high AAV deal with an opt out.
Hope I’m wrong but I think this is more of a signal to the Blue Jays/Dodgers that there is a backup plan if they don’t meet his demands.
Hope I’m wrong.
I love it. 50mil a year, sign with a World Series candidate (after he signs) and sign elsewhere at 32 if it doesn’t work out.
I think a lot of fans don’t realize that players think just like us. Yeah it’s easy ring chasing, but some people love a challenge and hate being seen as having a “can’t beat em join em” mentality, especially at Tucker’s age and caliber. He knows he can make a good team even better, and possibly knock down the World Series favorites for a legacy.
It’s not like the Mets FO to leak out the terms before signing. Maybe it’s from Tuckers camp to get his suitors to wake up
Any rebate in case he needs to go to a podcasters funeral?
“Welp, we tried”
The Dodgers are the Dodgers, and the Blue Jays went to the World Series last year. So naturally we’ll have offer a very high AAV to land him. I wouldn’t mind if we offered $50-55 AAV.
3 years is a much better proposition than 10
Jason Bay 2.0
The idea of a Tucker, Benge, Soto outfield is salivating.
You could very easily have 15 war in just the outfield.
No way Tucker is signing here. He’s using the Mets to get leverage from other teams.
If the Mets offer $150MM/3 years and he takes a longer, significantly lower AAV contract, you just gotta tip your cap. That’s a huge offer by the Mets.
If it is for 3 years, he should take it. May be add player options of 15 million in years 4 and 5. That brings him up to 180 over 5 years, with potentially more if he opts out in year 4.
Hes gna cost minimum 150 if its 3 years
If the Mets release nothing, how does anyone know the offer was 50 million per year. I guess Tucker’s group could go public with it.
Gonna be so fun watching him go to the dodgers and them 3Peat. The lockout after 2026 will be welcomed
Hope this is enough to get him. He’s a great player and it’s a great offer. Smart move by stearns, Dodgers can’t do shit without 100mil deferred and hope he will want to bet on himself
Seems like a bit much. For 3 years, I get it.. but damn that’s a lot of money.
We should add one more year just in case, he would still only be 32
The unfortunate reality is he is likely hoping the Dodgers come in with something comparable so he’s can play for a year or 2 with less pressure to produce then opt out after a WS win. Yes Mets look good on paper with Lindor- Soto-Tucker- Palonco- Alvarez- Baty-:Semien- Vientos- Benge but there will be a ton of pressure.
He is actually a really good player. Hotdogs cost a shitload for me whether they sign him or not. I say do it.
Supposedly the Blue Jays have now offered him a long term contract. Dammit.

No offence but the Mets leaking this basically guarantees he’s not going to the Mets. These things don’t become public knowledge usually until after a player signs. Theres a reason why Toronto and Dodgers haven’t leaked their terms.
Could be leak to try and force bellinger hand. I think they went him more because he can play OF and 1B potentially. When’s he’s at 1b the new guy from Seattle can DH or play elsewhere in the field.
