Should The Chicago Cubs TRADE Nico Hoerner?!

Should the Chicago Cubs trade Nico Hoerner? On this episode of the CHGO Cubs Podcast, we break down the growing trade speculation surrounding Hoerner, including reported interest from the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees, and how Alex Bregman’s arrival reshapes the Cubs’ infield picture. With Bregman in the mix, we analyze positional flexibility, payroll considerations, defensive value, and what a potential Hoerner trade could return. Does Bregman’s presence make Hoerner expendable—or even more valuable on the trade market? All that and more as we debate the future of the Cubs’ infield.

  1. From a pure fan Side, which last time I looked not part of Cubs management, don’t trade Nico. However, business side and what you perceive Matt Shaw to become at a cheaper cost controllable contract than Nico, you at least have to test value.

Nico is interesting because he is not only a second baseman but shortstop, he and his agent are testing what the value of his skill set defensively and disciplined batter will bring him. Probably higher than the Cubs want to tie up in an extension for him🌧

But any trade talk prior to the season needs to be major league talent not prospects since the Cubs are in it for 2026. What does the roster need for this year? A true right fielder, or closer? If they keep him and by trade deadline or not contending then you revisit with the possibility after the season bringing him back.

I would much rather explore Ian Happ waiving his no trade clause and moving on from him for major league ready talent. But why would he do that? he is currently on a gravy train and he is a solid not stand out batter, his glove is not questionable.
