The Mets' offer to Tucker could be for four years.

"From what I can tell, it's likely they've gone to a fourth year on this," SNY analyst and SiriusXM's Jim Duquette reported on Wednesday afternoon.

Duquette added that there would be an opt-out — and possibly multiple opt-outs — as part of the deal.

Additionally, Duquette notes that Steve Cohen is involved in the process.

According to multiple reports on Tuesday, the Mets had extended a three-year offer to Tucker worth $50 million annually.

In addition to the Mets, the Blue Jays have also reportedly made Tucker an offer, with Toronto's being of the long-term variety. There has not been any information regarding the amount of the Blue Jays' offer or whether it contains deferrals.

The Dodgers have also been in the mix for Tucker.

  1. If it’s 4 years, near 200 million, with opt outs – we really can’t blame Stearns if he goes elsewhere. That’s a hell of an offer.

  2. Just remember Duquette also said Diaz has several
4 year offers but the Team willing to go to 5 probably gets him.

  3. Steve Cohen involved means a lot. I think he will do whatever it takes (within some realm of reason) to make the deal happen even if it’s a “How about you let me manage that money in my fund and turn $200m into $400m”.

  4. Unless there are options outs included, a 4 year deal would be the last thing I would want if I was Tucker. If I’m not getting any 6+ years deals that I like, I would want 3 or less years so that I’m still very young when I hit the market.

But if 4 years is what Tucker wants, definitely give it to him.

  5. We really can’t lose in this situation with Cohen involved. Either he gets his man (as usually happens) or the agent fucks him over and he goes on an epic post-Matz’s agent fucking him over spending spree.

  6. If players can’t get the deal they want, this is the new game.
Shorter deals with higher AAV with multiple opt-outs.

This can work in the Mets favor. You have an owner willing to spend and you avoid years at the end of the contract that you are overpaying for to get the earlier years productivity.

I’m not saying Tucker will sign, but at least the Mets are trying and frankly, no one else has met truckers demands either.

  7. Let’s say the Mets are at four years for $200 million and the Blue Jays are at eight years for $320 million — which might be a reach.

Even in that scenario, the Mets’ offer is likely more appealing.

It’s also fair to believe that any Blue Jays offer has deferrals — perhaps massive ones.

  8. It would be hard to believe the Mets would be able to offer such a large contract without the owner being involved.

  9. Steve Cohen has entered the chat. $50M AAV range is his territory, not Stearns’. Cant trust Stearns to do anything right lol.

    Welcome back Steve!

  10. Another Mets offer leak, he’s wanting something more from the jays or dodgers, he ain’t coming here.

  11. Do it FFS. We need a win, something to make us feel better going into this season.
