MOCK DRAFT: New Orleans Saints Can Avoid DISASTER 2026 Draft With Caleb Downs First-Round Selection
Caleb Downs’ unexpected at No. 8 overall transforms the New Orleans Saints’ midweek mock draft from near disaster to a defensive win. The Ohio State safety, lauded for his elite vision and disruptive playmaking, fits perfectly into Brandon Staley’s defense alongside Justin Reid and Jonas Sanker.
The offensive rebuild continues with Oregon guard Emmanuel Pregnon and Georgia wide receiver Zachariah Branch, while mid-round picks like Alabama defensive tackle Tim Keenan III and Penn State running back Kaytron Allen bring versatility and breakout potential.
Late-round sleepers Nadame Tucker, Tacario Davis, and Houston tight end Tanner Kaziol add crucial depth and upside.

I’ll cut Reid tbh
The saints need a running back that can complement Tyler Shough in the mold of what Alvin use to be..
I really like your mock draft.. I have been saying that the Saints can by pass Jeremiah Love for a running back in the later rounds, Jadarian Price, Nick Singleton, and Kaytron Allen are all good backs. I like how Ross explained how Caleb Downs can be utilized while already having our safety position set.. Could Caleb Downs be Alonte Taylor replacement if we dont bring him back. Taking Guard in the 2nd round is addressing an issue, I just hope we have the guard position settled in the free agency. Branch is a good receiver, I want to see what Polk got in him. I've been hearing about Palmer as well.. I am very excited about what we do in this offseason.
Don't like S at 8. IF those taken above would take Miami OT move Mr F to G
Ross, where did AJ Haulcy or Harold Perkins end up going? If they do lose Alontae Taylor to free agency, I think either one of them would be a great pickup to play the Star role for Staley, and at a cheaper price than 8 overall w/ Downs (or whoever is there when they are on the clock). Both 6'0"-6'1", around 220 lbs, great in coverage, solid tacklers who won't hesitate to fit against the run. LSU bias aside, I think either one of those guys would really shine at that position, and they might be available at a lower-than-premium pick selection.
WR Indiana probably taken by Raiders top of 2nd. Like 2nd round pick place at LG to fix OL should be first priority. Then OL second priority. 3rd round TE Vandy, yet good with Branch. Perfect on DT.Yes on TB. OK two 5s. Love the Houston TE
Saints shouldn't hesitate to take Arvell Reese or Caleb Downs if available at 8
I respect your opinion on players that you think might work but I do have to say that if this is the way the draft goes I'm going to be terribly disappointed.
DOWNS a hit
ALLEN a hit.
Pregnon a Hit.
Kozial is decent.
The other players… never even heard of them.
And say that I'm taking no name players from universities they need to just go back to what they did last year and take the absolute animal best player off of each team just like they did in the 2025 draft.
Ill do a mock and post it on this video.
I would’ve lost it if after you said “I almost said Angel Reese” you would said “Yo pardon, that girl’s been on my mind all week.” Wu Tang reference
Brian Bresee has not been up to snuff and these people who say we should draft another Clemson DT in Woods are hilarious. No way no how. If the Saints don't go offense with the first pick either running back receiver or the best tackle on the board I say in my opinion that we are getting off to a bad start supporting Tyler going forward in year 2
Ross I like the Mock Draft you created. We do need to give Tyler some help on the offensive side to include a OL, RB and a WR to support Olave.🔥
What about Blackmon? We have 3 starter caliber safeties already.
No
Nooo Ross we have three safeties and if blackmons gone we still have two starting safeties?? Come on brotha we could use this pick on a million things not safety tho
Sorry Ross, but I'm glad you aren't running the Saints. I think you been hanging out with Mickey too long. Who wants a tremendous talent like Jeremiyah Love? When we could just completely suck ass again & be totally dead last in every running category known to football. I mean who needs a guy who had just shy of 500 touches with 3500 yards of total offense, 42 TDs & only one fumble which he recovered himself. When we can be DEAD last running the football again & put our young QB in constant 3rd & long situations all the time in every stinking game. You & the powers that be are correct. Let's just let him go to Kansas City & help them win another three super bowls.
Caleb Downs > Alontae
if caleb is there at 8 it's a no brainer. that's a cornerstone piece right there
My opinion if you retain alontae it wouldn’t make much sense. No idea when you will drafting that high again
All 32 locked host should get together for a mock draft at some point. I think that’ll be awesome and it’ll give you good insight on what the draft will look like
Barley, uses vele after acquiring him
Knowing Saints draft history, don't be surprised if the first round pick is the offensive lineman from Miami.
No. Chris Bell ? What about Omar Cooper ?
Instead of always banking on signing a over priced free agent, hopefully we can draft and develop players and save our money and use the cap the right way
With Ty Simpson declaring for the draft, do you think a team reaches to grab him in the top ten?
This draft should be all about giving Shough help. Next year you can concentrate on defense. I want guards, tackle, running back and tight end. I think you can win with the wide receivers we have and you can pick up another wideout. A punter and a place kicker wouldn't be a bad idea either
We take on of the tackles @ 8
Brazzell outta Tennessee or Sarratt outta Indy @ 42 and Rb Price @ 73 or edge or Lb with 73 and get Rb Singleton with the 130ish pick
Dante Moore has recommitted to Oregon so this throws everything off . But I wouldn’t take a safety . Probably better defensive edge or somebody that tighten up the run stop , or a guard for the offense . Draft a receiver in the 2nd round.and why would we select a small receiver all last year Ross harped on not having a big x receiver and that having Chris Olave , Rasheed and Brandon Cooks all being exactly the same not having a big guy that can make contested catches everywhere on the field do I don’t understand the logic now .
Really Ross a safety at 8 in a already crowded room
Saints need to take the best offensive weapon at #8
I’m so glad someone finally mentioned Branch, WE NEED TO DRAFT THIS KID
AJ HAULCEY is the choice for safety
