The Pittsburgh Steelers first known head coach interview request is for Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, per source. Baltimore, Cleveland and Las Vegas also have requested interviews with him during this hiring cycle.

That we’re even interviewing dudes like this has me absolutely giddy.

Definitely a move in the right direction.
Maybe Art is really being openminded about this. Awesome start to this process for sure
Chris Shula was also just requested
Shula too!
Off to a good start Art/Khan.
An excellent sign, this plus knowing internal options are out is an incredibly promising start!
Oooo now this is an interesting name
I like that his name is how a Yinzer would pronounce it if it were actually “Scheelhouse” which is close enough to “Steelhouse.”
Absolutely love it. Excellent start.
wheres that dude who posted this guy yesterday telling us to watch and wait
I love this
Wonder if Udinski will get an interview from us. He’s probably still a couple years away from being ready for the job (only 30 years old!), but KOC raved about him in Minnesota and the results this year in Jacksonville have been pretty great. Could be a great guy to bring in and allow him to grow into the job while we replenish the roster with talent.
Good start
Love it
As an Illinois fan who’s been casually following Nate’s career trajectory, dude is a rising star in the coaching ranks.
For those that don’t know btw, it’s pronounced ‘Sheel-House’. Lol
These are the kind of names I want to see. Particularly offensive minded. Please keep DC’s away from the facility. I will say it until I am blue in the face but you need offensive guys for developing QB’s. Since we don’t have a stud vet QB, we need an offensive guy.
Hope they hire him!
It’s refreshing to see a young face has the possibility of becoming the new HC. We need something new, and someone willing to change up their coaching style/how the steelers play.
I’m a life long Iowa State season ticket holder, where Nate was an assistant for a while. Would LOVE to see this guy as our head coach!
ain’t gonna be him but i’m pleasantly surprised they’re talking to offensive guys from a team like the rams
I would not be shocked if they picked him if he kills the interview. He fits their mold
Young guy, first time HC, came out of nowhere
can you imagine yinzers saying this dudes name?
hiring a guy who has never been a OC or DC before would give me pause.
simply fire Smith and offer him the OC job.
when are they gonna fire Smith? that has to be coming right?
Why is everyone so surprised we’re looking at young talent? Mike tomlin was one of the youngest coaches to ever get a head coaching job and was the youngest to win a Super Bowl until McVay did it.
Cowher was also young when hired too. We prefer young to establish a culture and use that to build around.
I want a HC who owns the offense like McVay and Andy Reid types… we can bring in D coordinators and let them handle the D but if we get a coach who runs the offense, it won’t always be in flux at least from who’s leading it like so many of the later Ben and post Big Ben years. Just my opinion but I think you need an offensive minded head coach, last 30 plus years we’ve had a HC with the defense first mentality.
These are exactly the kinds of guys to target. Coaches that think outside of the box and that have offensive minds not from the past.
I don’t understand the obsession with McVay coaches. Seems like if I stood at a urinal next to McVay I could get an interview.
Remember him at Illinois
Gotta modernize the offense and think this is a good potential candidate.
Ultimately believe they will end up with Flores and it would be hard to argue with his track record in Minnesota and turn around a bad defense and made them a top 10 unit for 3 years, after being I believe 22nd in the prior year. It’s not like the Steelers defense doesn’t have talent.
Flores was basically run out of Miami for refusing to tank. Hard to say that’s a bad thing.
