this makes me happy because i wanted change but it would also hurt so bad to see him coaching elsewhere. it just wouldn’t feel right. obviously his decision could change in the future but right now this makes me feel better lol.

now that this is actually a reality and we are on the hunt for our new HC, i want to know how do you guys feel about the potential rebuild we are about to enter and will us as fans be able to handle a few losing seasons should that happen??

  1. Just curious if someone threw him $20 million per year to be in south Florida if that wouldn’t sway his mind.

  2. idk why the post cut off but my last sentence was will us as fans be able to handle a few losing seasons if that does happen?

  3. I hope he enjoys his time away from coaching, however long it will be, and has fun in life. I appreciate all he’s done for the Steelers and wish him happiness

  4. I remember when Cowher retired. The rumor was he’d return to NYG or CAR once his kids left the home, but he ended up loving the tv life. I was fully prepared to declare my NFC loyalty to whichever team hired him.

  5. If this is the case, he’s presumably thinking about the big picture of this scenario. He has the opportunity to walk away known as one of the greatest coaches of this century. What more does he have to gain by taking a gig elsewhere and possibly tarnishing that legacy? Instead, he’s going to cash a FAT check from a cable TV network and just speak some whacky tomlinism’s on Sunday afternoons, then go home and chill with his family.

  6. I would bet money on him never coaching again. He has a wife and family he loves. He got to be Steelers pope. He has a ring and will be in the hall of fame.

He isn’t a weird ghoul like Belichick.

  7. My best case scenario will always be Tomlin figuring it out for another great season somewhere in the last few years. The second best outcome is he walks away with grace and respect and joins the hall of fame and the ring of honor sooner rather than later.

  8. He’s going into media where he only needs to work one day a week and make even more than he did as a coach. He made a business decision.

  9. He should go enjoy life. I cant imagine the countless hours he put in as a head coach the last 20 years. Take a year or two off, take Mrs Tomlinson (or Mr Tomlinson if she has has male parts) on a nice long vacation for their 30th anniversary. Come back, take a nice cushy broadcasting gig and in 5 years will see all of Pittsburgh take over Canton

  10. Yinz broke him.
    J/K, kinda.
I hope he coaches again if he wants to. Legend.

Also – Coach is absolutely BUILT for tv

  11. He doesn’t have to coach again he’s tied with chuck noll for most wins ever as a coach in steeler history.

Let’s not forget ppl wanted noll gone badly at the end of his career after winning 4 super bowls in 6 years.

  12. So as accurate as a google search can be, it states his net worth is $32MM. If I had even half that much I’d retire and spend all my time doing whatever the hell I wanted.

  13. I was saying yesterday I dont think he would coach anyone other than the Steelers. It feels wrong to me.

  14. I think if Tomlin was interested in still coaching he would have just stayed. It makes little sense to resign like this and then immediately jumped to another team.

  15. If tanking and high draft picks guaranteed post season success, The Raiders would be perennial contenders every year.

They’re instead currently paying 4 head coaches on a coaching search

  16. Cower did the same thing, stepped away to spend more time with his family. I can’t blame people who do that, you dedicate so much time to being a head coach in the NFL. After so many years I can see wanting to step away

  17. Dude has enough money to ride off into the sunset, I wouldn’t bother either enjoy life.

  18. He also pretty much confirmed theyre not promoting anyone to the hc position aka we’re saved from arthur smith

  19. For him to step down one game away from chuck noll is pretty cool he did idn’t want to step on the goats coattails.

  20. He has generational wealth, he’s healthy, well loved, and he has a career winning record. I can see riding off into the sunset being very attractive.

  21. These guys all make close to 10 million a year now if not more. I’m surprised more coaches don’t just retire early with their millions. It can’t be worth the stress.
