I don’t think drouin is a bad player or anything and I think he adds a lot of skill and speed to the lineup but he’s a primary playmaker who fulfills the same role as Barzal on the half wall to distribute the puck, which is why he stands around and does nothing on PP1 because there’s no one to pass to. Holmstrom is also similar but at least he can rip it when he feels like it.
drouin is not good at handling the puck. and his positioning always seems late. hope he can get hot again down the stretch.

Drouin was the beneficiary of playing with Mackinnon. There’s no one on isles who can come close and hide this guy’s flaws.
Why is this the first time ever I’m hearing news about our PP?
I’m all for riding the hot hand, but IMO Holmstrom is way too picky a shooter to be good on the PP. His 4G in the last 3 games came on 8 SOG total. We really need someone who will just let it rip with the slightest opening on the PP (not that we really have one).
On the other hand, Drouin hasn’t done shit lately (0G 5A in the last 23 games) and there’s an argument to be made that his success in Colorado the past couple of years before we signed him was mostly because he was riding MacKinnon and Rantanen’s coattails.
Some people in here really thought drouin was gonna pop off based on last year in Colorado. Dude was playing with Nathan motherfucking MacKinnon.
It’s been a while coming. Drouin has chemistry with Horvat but he needs to be scoring a few without him.
