3. Mavs play their division opponents four times. They play every East team two times except Brooklyn who they'll play three games because of the tournament rescheduling. They play half of the remaining ten Western Conference teams four games and the other half three games, seemingly selected at random.

14. All I can say is, this is the difference between a poverty franchise and a respectable one. The Mavs aren't tanking because they want to. They are losing because of injuries and bad team construction. The Jazz have shown they can be an above average team but the front office is holding them back. Just last week, I saw Lauri out because of "rest". Wtf? I have never seen that on a Mavericks injury report in my life. I'm personally hoping they drop to the 8th pick. They get there pick but it's the worst possible pick they could have. The league has got to do something about this for sure.

15. Guys, it's locked on Mavs, not on Jazz. Don't focus the first half almost the whole show on the Jazz tanking. That's not what the Mavs fans care about.

16. They should not reward teams for losing games. It is worse than any problem it solves. Either don't solve the problem or find a better way.

    I like ideas where teams don't get draft position for losing games, but for being willing to allow teams to make forced trades for their non-drafted players in return for higher draft position. If you actually have a team of bad players, you'll be fine with risking forced trades. If you have good players, you'll be less willing to take a risk.

    There are different schemes along these lines, but the core insight is that the draft should be used to help bad teams and bad teams are the ones with bad players and you determine who has bad players via self-reporting with adversarial market mechanisms to keep it honest. Using the standings is a ridiculous flaw in the NBA system.

    Note, as I understand the system: I am fully onboard with then Mavs tanking. Waiting until March like Slightly suggested is sub-optimal. Blame the people running the league. They've designed a bad system.

But if you look at this years Draft they are in a similar situation like the Mavs. They have to get a Top 5 pick in this years draft. Dybantsa is very likely a superstar in the NBA. As a Mavs fan I understand why the Jazz are tanking. The NBA will have penalties after this season for Teams obviously tanking like the Jazz did tonight. And besides Markannen there is no real star on the Team.

21. I heard 2 good take for tanking saying:1. The bottom 4 teams don’t get a top pic. 2. The 9th place team gets number 1. The team that tried to make the playoffs but fell short are the teams who need it most. And it would benefit the players much more than going to a team who tanks annually, AND has losing culture. Better fit development, rewarding effort, and forces teams to compete for the 1 rather being gifted it
