lol the Kenny era should have been an extension of the short lived Duck era. At least it would have been fun.
Or if they weren’t desperate because they waited till Ben’s arm nearly fell off they wouldn’t have drafted a dogshit QB
How he managed to be so incredibly dogshit is beyond me. Eternal backup
I had hoped they’d take Lamar in 18. He was there. Oh well
We were stupid enough to draft him, so it’s on the outgoing GM who made his biggest ever draft blunder (which is saying allot).
He was the worst pick at the end, but he wasn’t the only bad pick from Colbert that led to this
Few things – first, Kenny is far, far, far from the problem. QBs taking top 10 bust all the time. The Steelers took a flyer on him at 20. It’s a worthwhile gamble if you think he can grow to be the guy. But you have to have the support structure in place to do that… and the Steelers didnt and really still don’t. There was a reason so many QB needy teams passed on him. Because he wasn’t a sure thing. He was a lottery ticket that had a lot of experience and could potentially be a really good game manager in a good system. The biggest problem is that the Steelers didn’t prepare at all for the post Ben era. So there was no system to inherit. There is not a QB in the league that would’ve performed well with Matt Canada, no weapons and a terrible OLine. They’re doing it the right way this time. Assuming they draft an offensive weapon in 26, a QB drafted in 27 (even a late first round guy like Kenny) will have a significantly greater chance of excelling.
Side note – this picture is Kenny making a good play in a game that he was playing better than any Steelers QB has played in years until he got hurt. Those gloves helped him hold onto that ball, his little twirl saved a fumble even if it looked stupid. And people who post this as some kind of slam just want to hate the guy because the context doesn’t support it.
Bruh, Roger’s played well for us. He can’t catch the ball too. Those drops by Metcalf cost $15M each.
It’s more of if he had the talent and OC to help him we wouldn’t be in this predicament. KP had a a o-line held together by paperclips, no good team player style receiver, and an OC who was so bad that he hasn’t gotten a new job and was the first OC fired mid season in a millenia for us. Bro was given a 2 of club and a 9 of spade and did the best he could.
That’s super bowl champion Kenny Pickett to you!
That doofus never had a chance with the offensive coordinator he had
Dear god, what in the name of all that is holy and sacred is he doing? Whatever “it” is, it better be aerobics, jazzercise, or the moment before he punts the ball. Because if he’s in the middle of losing the ball with gloves on both…never mind. Nice uniform, Kenneth.
If rookie QB Kenny Pickett would have had a competent OC & HC, things would have turned out different. But sadly the head COACH couldnt hire competent staff and couldn’t COACH.
There is a reason the title says head COACH, but all rah-rah and buddy with no coaching skill gets you a 1st rnd QB getting his career trashed
Coaching talent is the reason why you have coaches and a head coach to lead them all.Sadly Kenny never got any real coaching, pushed to the side until mediocre mike was given no choice but to start him.
Or we had identified a good QB in the draft in the last decade
Dart went 25
Purdy went 262
Love 26
Hurts 53
Lamar 32
Dak 135
Any of those could be on the Steelers now.
Big year for the GM
If we recycle this formula of reclamation project QB we are fucked.
We have a LOT of late round picks. Something could definitely be done to move up.
I dont know enough about college ball to know who to go after but then im not paid a kings ransom to do that. Lets hope the GM and scouting team dont shit the bed AGAIN.
We could have got him in the 3rd or Willis. We never should have reached
Worst first round pick ever, however the Shazier injury set this franchise on an un-alterable course drift. Time and space will just never be the same…
The underlying issue is Tomlin’s staff was abysmal at identifying and developing talent. When they drafted Rudolph, they insisted they got a steal because they had him rated as a 1st round pick they got in the 3rd.
They drafted Pickett, gave him no reps in camp, no reps in preseason then threw him in half way through game 3. He wasn’t the answer but they did him no favors.
Even Josh Dobbs came out after the fact and said they did little for him in terms of preparation.
It says a lot when AR2 says no one on this staff will be given consideration for the HC job, and the new coach will make all their own hires.
haha, I needed this laugh. Truly a doofus.
You mean Tomlin’s guy Kenny?
You guys do realize a lot of the time a QBs success comes down to coaching and development right? Sure he’s a bust of a pick but we certainly didn’t do him any favors
See you in 5 years. Let the rebuild begin 😂😂😂😂
If we didn’t get Mitch Trubisky and let Mason Rudolph start ahead of Kenny, we would have likely started Kenny earlier and found out he wasn’t going to be the guy.
I blame signing Mitch as much as drafting Kenny.
The clock on Tomlin started when Ben retired.
Some Doofus drafted him in the first round….
So Tomlin had no say in the pick?
Iirc in the draft footage from the team Tomlin looked like he was damn near about to tear up when he was making the call to Kenny.
i really feel like the breaking point was shazier’s injury, we’ve seemed to be cursed since that point with mediocrity and have been trying to replace him since
and a lot of dumbasses here thought he would be good. probably the same dumbasses who think Roman Wilson and Will Howard will be good.
Thank you… finally someone says it
If you just want to play completely unabashed badly revisionist history, how about them passing on Lamar Jackson to take Terrell Edmunds? Pretty goddamn stupid in retrospect, right?
You could play this game all day.
Drafting Edmunds over Lamar hurt the franchise more
IF my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle
It probably would have.
And if my aunt had male parts
Aw don’t slander my guy!!
Everyone agrees Tomlin hired dogshit coordinators but all these people didnt want to lose the coach that hired dogshit coordinators.
Also, Kenny is 100% because of the Ghost of Marino.
