Orioles News & Notes: Ranger Suárez, Sam Huff, International Signings
Ranger Suárez has signed with the Boston Red Sox, leaving Framber Valdez as the final top-line free agent starting pitcher left on the market. Host Connor discusses why the Orioles didn’t beat that offer for Suárez, and where they turn next for another starter.
Then, Connor breaks down the Orioles latest batch of international signings, gives an update on the international prospects in the system as a whole, and gives you the scouting report on catcher Sam Huff, whom the O’s signed to a minor league deal.

Connor, the reason why Peter angelos was not a fan of this process, was because he made his living representing workers as a lawyer. He was very adamant that workers got paid what they were supposed to get owed and even sided with the players during one of the MLB strikes. Peter was a very flawed man but he definitely cared about employee rights
I don’t want Framber, such a bad character guy…
Fudge Ranger Suarez…….his arse is grass this year.
Connor: I heard we’d offered the same contract … 5 years at $26mm per year. And that Suarez had the offer for quite a while. It just seems he didn’t want to be here. Unfortunately, let’s move on…. Peralta? Ryan? Lopez? Gallen? Or do we go after Valdez? It seems we don’t want him… true? We might have more success in the trade market…. Let’s go Os!!
As Catchers go, Silas Ardion will be ready at some point this year… if healthy.
Orioles offered same deal weeks ago. He used it to get Boston to match. He prob never came back to us to counter and just signed with the sox
There was a question "Do the Orioles now have enough starting pitching to go with their obviously massive offense to win?".
The answer was "Well, it's be good if they for another decent starter" that turned into "It's be great if they got a front line starter" that because "The Orioles NEED at least a #2 starter". Do they actually "need" a $20m arm? I don't think that's necessarily the case. At all.
What they DON'T need to do it pay $120m for a 5 year deal for a starting pitcher. That rarely works out. The Orioles actually have some pretty decent pitchers at this point. Framber Valdez for a couple of years would be AWESOME. A win=win becuase that puts WElls in the bullpen which would be a massive upgrade in a pitching spot a massive upgrade is needed. What the Orioles DO need a dependable left-handed relief pitcher.
I would like to add another quality starter but keep this in mind folks. Trading our better young players that should be MLB ready in a few years for a proven starter hitting free agency in a year or 2 means two things. First, you've emptied the farm ( long term success ) for a World Series caliber team for a year or 2, three years tops ( short term success ). Second, it means even more quality players will be hitting UFA around the same time as the young core the O's are building around. There will be a window of about 3-4 years where most of the good young players that we would all like to see in the black n orange their entire career are all going to be looking to get paid. Ask yourself, do you think the new owners will spend THAT much money? Consider all the names that will fall in that category and think about it from an ownership stand point. You have the option of re-signing most or all of them ( if they want to stay here ) OR having a bad team for a few years while re-stocking the farm system since most of your top prospects got traded for short term success and the replacements for players hitting UFA are no higher than AA or have not been drafted yet. Food for thought.
Bro we are NOT getting pitching. The sooner we all accept it the better
I'm hoping they're not counting on a trade and overestimating the value of someone like Mayo… And as much as I want the Orioles to sign a top-notch pitcher I'm really torn on Framber as a long-term big money signing
You can always criticize offseason moves but it seems like Suarez wanted to be in Boston rather than Baltimore. I would also guess that the Mets who appeared salty over losing Alonzo to the Orioles (which is odd considering they didn't go after him) might be willing to greatly overpay Valdez….. And if you had millions of dollars and had to choose between living in Baltimore or New York City which would you honestly choose?
I think Cease was Elias’s first choice too. Once Toronto blew up the market on both years and cash… it kind of put a bummer on his plans.
I’m not saying Elias doesn’t have a plan B. I’m just saying he’s not in love with his choices from the start of free agency until now.
I’m still optimistic that he surprises us all with a blockbuster trade that solves all of our concerns.
Go Birds in ‘26!!!!!!
The front office signed Alonso to try getting attendance back up. Once we traded for Baz, and resigned Eflin, I knew it was a wrap on the rotation,
This is typical Elias. The sooner fans realize he DOESN’T sign pitchers to longer term deals, the quicker we will stop feeling the disappointment.
The only way to make the front office and ownership get the hint is STOP buying tickets. My family has been a season ticket holder in section 23 since 2000’ and this year going forward we will watch on tv. I’m not supporting a franchise that’s not serious about contending legitimately to win a championship.

Are they standing pat to dive into deeper waters next year?
Frustrating cuz it feels like starting pitching is always our achilles heel.
Its all talk. They signed Alonzo to be the face of the franchise. They haven't really spent big money.
