I feel like Bregman ingratiated himself more to Chicago in these 10 minutes than Tucker did in an entire season.

This guy wants to be here.

Because he has. Tucker seems like some mute mf who has zero personality.
Tucker was traded and Bregman choose to be here. Completely different situations.
Honestly I don’t regret losing Tucker at all. Especially given the contract he signed with the Dodgers. We were never going to match that and honestly we shouldn’t have.
Being traded is different but we’d never match what LA gave him, or even what the Mets offer was. He always seemed, to me at least, like he didn’t want to be here and couldn’t wait for the offseason. We got a great player now so I’m happy. FTW!!
It’s probably just personality more than anything.
I will say this as a fellow introvert, I would definitely at least try to make an effort to learn more about my new city and especially the culture of it…but I also just like visiting cities across the U.S.
Tucker didn’t have a contract
Tucker seemed like he cared most about his free agency and didn’t want to get too attached to the city.
The Dodgers and Scott Boras just guaranteed a long lockout. Dodgers are going to lose peak years of their best players.
Good Lord the amount of crying around here because Tucker didn’t outwardly demonstrate the proper amount of love to the Cubs, the city, and the fans.
Tucker was such a disappointment come playoff time. Dodgers overpaid big time.
Fu*k Tucker and Fu*k the dodgers. Hope there is a lockout.
He didn’t wanna be in Chicago
I think they’re very different people and I won’t blame Tucker for that. He was the same “chill guy” in Houston.
But it does make it easier as a fan to feel a connection to Bregman so I won’t blame anyone for feeling that way, too.
People are so fucking weird. God forbid someone just goes to work and goes home.
So is the requirement of being on Chicago Cubs is that you need to have a gimmick? So many comments on how “Tucker never looked like he belonged”. It’s like can’t a guy just play baseball?
Tucker knew he was a rental and had no particular reason to do these things. Yes, it would have been polite, but Bregman chose to make a commitment so Bregman’s actions make more sense.
Well, Bregman signed a long term deal and Tucker had no intention of sticking around, so that makes sense.
Tbf one was traded against his will here. The other signed here by his own doing.
Tucker said 127 words at his opening presser….and maybe 78 the rest of the season. It was very clear Kyle preferred being more of a secondary star without any pressure to talk to the media and be the main focus. Dodgers is literally perfect for him. Make 60 mil and not one person will be looking to speak to him, ever.
Tucker was a rental who got traded in the last year of his contract. He didn’t choose to be in Chicago. I can’t fault him and his wife for not wanting to have to move for one short season.
(Of course I can fault him for quitting on the team halfway through the season, dogging it more often than not, disappearing in the playoffs, etc)
Never felt that Tucker ever gave a shit about the city or the team. You never saw him smile or have fun out there. He was just adding Chicago to one of his pit stops.
Good fucking riddance
Dodgers throwing their weight around spending a lot making sure ever knows they are loaded and always get their players . It’s total bullshit. Massive overpay for a guy who will be injured a lot ,
I dont feel like Tucker did anything to alienate the fanbase. He was good in the club house. Produced for the team. Played with a broken hand. Im happy we arent the ones paying him 60 mil but I dont think its necesarry to take shots at him. That says more about our fans than it does him.
True.
Imagine if the Cubs brought Tucker back. Everyone here would be absolutely thrilled. But because he went to the Dodgers, the narrative has to be “he never wanted to be here” or “he sucked anyway” or whatever else.
I wish the Cubs spent like the Dodgers and did whatever it took to field the best team possible. There’s no value in pretending that Bregman is a better player than Tucker (he isn’t). Sure — he’s saying and doing all of the right things to win the fans over. Let’s see how he performs on the field.
To be fair, Tucker didn’t choose to come to the Cubs.
Anyone that’s upset with Tucker’s tenure has nobody to blame but themselves for treating him as anything more than a rental.
With our ownership it’s a miracle we sign anybody. The city does all the work for us.
He seems like he’s not truly a gan of baseball he just happens to be good at it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him retire in 4 years
To be fair to tucker he got traded to the cubs so he never really choose to be here.
You don’t have to pretend you hated tucker just because he didn’t sign or because he signed with the dodgers. He was here for a fun season and now he’s not. Oh well. Next season looks like it’s also gonna be fun.
Said that last season about Tucker compared to Cody…
Here is the Dodgers formula: this doesn’t include Tucker.
Key Players & Deferrals
Shohei Ohtani: $680 million deferred (2034-2043).
Mookie Betts: $115 million deferred (2033-2044).
Blake Snell: $66 million deferred (2035-2046).
Freddie Freeman: $57 million deferred (2028-2040).
Will Smith: $50 million deferred (2034-2043).
Tommy Edman: $25 million deferred (2037-2044).
That’s bc he did.
I’m over Tucker. I didn’t consider buying a jersey when he was signed because I knew we were only a rest stop for him. He didn’t do shit for half the season so I forgot he even existed.
I’ll be happy not to see the rollover ground balls and Tucker seemed completely full of himself even when he was playing awful.
This isn’t wrong
100 percent
Tucker was a selfish guy playing for a big contract. From the stories we hear now, he wasn’t really a team guy. Chicago was just a transitional place for him.
Bregman wants to be a cub.
I don’t know when you guys are going to learn. He may really like it here, but most players sign for the most money possible. If you like the feel good story, cool. Just remember it and don’t pull out the pitchforks when inevitably he struggles at times.
Sure it sucks that he went to the dodgers but man some of you take these moves way too personally
