I know it's a daily take, but Kesselring will eventually be icing on the Doan trade cake.

  1. Doan this season is maybe our 4th best forward. Maybe 3rd. He’s been far beyond what I dared hope.

  2. Give Adams credit….even if he was terrible at pretty much everything else when it comes to running a franchise. He did make a few really solid trades. The Peterka, errrrr….Kesselring, errrrr….Doan trade was a very astute move.

Nowhere near the best in franchise history, but a very good trade nonetheless

  3. Tough to call it the best trade ever, but so far it’s up there.

    Briere (+ 3rd) for Gratton (+ 4th)
Drury (+ Steve Begin?) for Rhett Warrener + Steve Reinprecht

Hasek for Beauregard (+ 4th) like PrinciplesRK and OP mentioned in here.

Any others? Lots of valuable swaps like Peca (+ Wilson + 1st) for Mogilny, LaFontaine for Turgeon, but those were more even imo.

  4. Said it before, so apologies for being redundant. He’s looking like the Foligno in the McCourt trade: effective, gritty, motivator, fan favorite. Kesserling is the bonus at this point.

  5. Maybe if Doan becomes the second coming of Zetterberg and Kesselring becomes the second coming of Pronger.

  6. When the trade was announced, my first reaction was that if Doan could turn into anything like his father was, then we just absolutely stole him from Utah.

    I love being right.

  7. The part of the trade that people always leave out is the contracts.

    * Peterka is costing Utah 7.7 a year.
    * Doan is still entry level & costing us less than 1.

And they’re putting up basically the same numbers.

  8. A bit of recency bias, but it could go down as a great “hockey trade”. The Briere for Gratton trade was a HUGE win for the Sabres.

  9. Bedt trade ever? Holy hyperbole..no trade will ever touch hasek. We gave nothing, and in return received the best goalie who have stepped out on ice.

  10. I think of Doan as being the more complete player than Peterka, who often cheated to the offensive end and didn’t like to play defense. Doan plays both ends willingly. He’ll only get better.
