[Gelb] After a failed Phillies pursuit of Bo Bichette, now what? – “The Phillies were willing to readjust everything for Bichette, but absent him, they are now unlikely to add a meaningful position player.”

  1. Lol. Told people that were expecting Bellinger or Suarez or something…Bo was it.

  2. I know Gelb is usually really good, but it feels like they’re mum on anyone else because being vocal about free agents this offseason doesn’t seem to be going too well. Hope he’s wrong but I know deep down he isn’t.

  3. Cowards who refuse to get creative and instead wanna run it back and be the baseball sixers

  4. It’s ok, I’m sure this will be the year Bohm, Stott, and Marsh will all make meaningful jumps.

  5. If meaningful position players are all getting twice their value in AAV now, then we might have been screwed either way

Idk how Bichette could turn down 7/200 for the fucking Mets tho

  6. Why haven’t the Phils been in the conversation for Eugenio Suarez? He would be a massive improvement over Bohm.

  7. I guess he’s going to have to get on his private jet and fly to La if he wants to see his fucking trophy.

  8. On the bright side… Stott should be elated.

Bohm was gone either way next year to make room for Miller… Stott was the real one Bo would’ve replaced

Now he’s got a 2nd chance to prove he’s our 2B of the future… and hey, he somehow was the most valuable player on our 2023 team by bWAR… so who knows.

  9. This is such a freaking gut punch, it’s so clear they’re a bat short it’ll be another trade deadline where we have to give up a good prospect for a rental

  10. Also now they have to keep both Bohm & Stott after flirting with trading 1 or both

But… I hope they have a plan B, I wouldn’t hate Arraez or Suarez on a shorter deal. They just can’t run it back with Garcia for Casty being the only change offensively.

  11. This team is gonna be a hot trash disappointment. Ready for another age cliff franchise nose dive. Plus, Castellanos AND Kerkering are still here? Lmao

  12. We should re-sign Harrison Bader. Then, we should turn our attention to Framber Valdez to bolster a rotation that is full of question marks and meatballs.

  13. Dodgers (Tucker), Mets (Bichette), and Barves (health) all get meaningfully better while the Phillies get older with less starting pitching. Why should fans be excited for this season?

  14. Run it back. Three years ago WS two ago playoff win last yeast just playoffs. This year? Third place?

  15. I dunno about everyone else but I’m most excited for Walker every 5th day. I can’t wait to see the improvement he makes 😂

  16. The problem is deferred compensation. Make all salary be paid in the years of play. Dodgers couldn’t be doing what they are doing without the deferred compensation master class they are putting on.

  17. After Bregman signed for as much as he did I’m surprised so many people thought we would land Bichette. Younger player was getting the same
Or more and it turned out to be 7mil more. There was no way they were going to put that money out for him. If they did, then you would probably start hearing that Bryce would want a restructure again because he would want to be the highest paid position player as the face of the franchise. They needed to sign Bichette before the other players sign not after someone else sets the market. I’d love for them to go after Bellinger but he looks out of reach now also. IMO the bigger need was to go after a solid OF player not infield

  18. The cap ruined the NHL Luxury tax is the way .You should be able to spend as much as you want .With the luxury tax the dodgers have Tuckers contract comes out to 127 million a year .If the Dodgers or any team owner in any sport wants to pay that they should be allowed .Its not our money why do we care

  19. With next season being very possibly a lockout, is it not very possible for the Phillies to be major sellers at the deadline this year. The thought that our 34-35 year old core players will be on the couch for a season and coming back to play at age 36ish is terrifying.

Might we be setting up for a fire sale?

  20. How’s Bader doing these days?

Maybe we should call him like we’re some regretful ex!

  21. I know this sounds crazy, but what about them checking in on Eugenio Suarez?
I know he is a below avg. 3B+ strikes out a lot he is also 34 yrs old. However in the last 3 gears he has hit 30, 36+ 49 Hrs. He is all RH. He might just be the perfect 4 hitter ( under Harper)
What about a 2 yr offer+ then , hopefully, Aiden Smith could be ready

  22. On the plus side, due to not signing Bochette, the Phil’s HAVE reached an agreement with JT Realmuto for 3 years.
